Full Job Description
Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. Our Miami, FL office is actively searching for a Structural Engineer with 4 to 10 years of experience in structural engineering with a minimum of 2 years in waterfront engineering design, analysis, and implementation of marine structures.

As part of the Marine Structural team, you will design waterfront structures and complete marine infrastructure projects. This includes marinas, cargo and cruise berths, vessel mooring and berthing systems, bulkheads, breakwaters, coastal protection structures, and related support facilities. As the ideal candidate, you will have a strong background in structural engineering principles and a passion for delivering high-quality solutions in the marine and offshore industry. You will be actively engaged on large, highly complex port development and waterfront infrastructure projects. You would have, or be interested, in developing technical supervision functions and project management skills.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Performs structural analysis and designs for piers, wharves, bulkheads, pile-supported structures, and other waterfront facilities
  • Applies and proportions timber, steel, concrete, and composite materials across a range of marine structural systems
  • Supports wind and seismic analysis using appropriate industry methods
  • Prepares engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and technical memoranda
  • Conducts site visits and inspections to evaluate existing conditions and prepare condition assessment reports with clear recommendations
  • Assists with construction administration including review of shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals
  • Performs construction site inspections and prepares inspection reports
  • Supports quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimating
  • Collaborates with engineers, architects, scientists, and project managers on multidiscipline projects
  • Helps resolve design challenges through field investigations, research, detailed design, and coordination with team members
  • Ensures work complies with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Helps guide and mentor junior staff
  • Develops project management skills by supporting planning, coordination, and execution of projects, ensuring tasks are completed on time and within scope
  • Collaborates with clients by participating in meetings and conference calls, contributing to discussions, and maintaining clear, professional communication

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Availability and willingness to travel between the South Florida offices (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach)
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working Conditions:

After initial training, this position may be hybrid, working in the office 3 days a week.

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some light travel is required. Occasional site visits will be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
