Full Job Description
Overview

The Structural Engineer PE II performs technical activities on assigned projects including participation in technical studies, investigations, and designs. Also assists the project team in the production of projects that are on time, within budget, and of the utmost quality.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and prepares drawings for all structural systems for building projects including gravity load and lateral loads, foundation plans, and framing plans that will withstand gravity, wind, and seismic forces and adhere to governing codes and public safety requirements.
  • Determines size and orientation of all structural members and components via the appropriate calculations.
  • Coordinates project designs with other disciplines including architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, etc.
  • Performs quality control review of structural drawings.
  • Writes and edits structural system specifications for building projects.
  • Attends meetings with owners, clients, and/or architects as needed; Prepares and distributes meeting notes.
  • Coordinates with local authorities and municipalities to ensure compliance with construction and governmental standards.
  • Coordinates with suppliers, contractors, clients, and client representatives to determine project scope.
  • Performs engineering studies and other design analyses.
  • Mentors and directs the work of Structural Designers in order to ensure quality control and professional development.
  • Conducts site surveys to determine existing facility conditions.
  • Conducts project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes. Prepares punch lists and project observation reports to note findings.
  • Prepares Proposal Requests (PR's) and Supplemental Instructions (SI's); and responds to Requests for
  • Information (RFI's).
  • Reviews project submittal documents and approves, or rejects based upon compliance with project drawings and specifications.
  • Assists the project manager in establishing and preparing budgets, cost estimates, project schedules, and project contracts, and project billing.
  • Assists in quality assurance reviews for all disciplines.
  • Performs work with a high degree of latitude.
  • Handles the most complex issues.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Architectural Engineering with a

  • 6-8 years of Structural Engineering Experience as a Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Ability to design 10+ story buildings; Ability to design steel, wood, and concrete framing systems; masonry load bearing walls; complex foundation systems; special moment frames; seismic wind load systems; and masonry and concrete shear walls.
  • 5+ years' experience with AutoDesk Revit BIM Software
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Higher Education and/or Central Energy Plant (CEP) infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to design multi-story buildings.
  • Ability to design steel, wood, and concrete framing systems; masonry load bearing walls; complex foundation systems; special moment frames; seismic wind load systems; and masonry and concrete shear walls.
Travel Requirements
  • 5-10% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
