Description

This position allows for a remote, work from home schedule, with the occasional expectation to visit a local office.

This position will give you the opportunity to:

  • Prepare drafting and design deliverables for civil and structural design packages supporting substation projects.
  • Develop site layout drawings, grading and drainage plans, foundation plans and details, structural steel and reinforced concrete details, equipment support details, trench and duct bank arrangements, and related civil/structural construction deliverables.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical, physical, civil/structural, and project teams to resolve design interfaces, technical questions, model conflicts, and drawing comments.
  • Support foundation-related and below-grade design development, including trench systems, duct banks, conduit routing, and associated site and structural arrangements.
  • Review vendor drawings and other applicable reference information and incorporate relevant requirements into project deliverables.
  • Perform thorough quality self-checks and support interdisciplinary reviews to maintain drawing quality, consistency, and constructability.
  • Support field investigations, site walkdowns, redline incorporation, and as-built development as needed.
  • Identify civil and structural design risks, grading and drainage conflicts, constructability concerns, and coordination issues early and communicate them to project leads.
  • Support schedule execution by planning assigned work, prioritizing deliverables, and meeting project milestones.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to junior designers on assigned work and help reinforce drafting quality and sound design execution practices.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • An Associates Degree in Drafting, and/or aBachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, and/or a high school diploma and 3 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in substation civil/structural design or relevant industry expertise with demonstrated responsibility for developing drawing packages and coordinating design interfaces.
  • Civil site development experience involving grading, drainage, stormwater concepts, trench and duct bank layout, access considerations, and construction-oriented deliverables.
  • Structural design and drafting experience involving foundations, equipment supports, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and related utility or industrial infrastructure detailing.
  • Mechanical, plant, industrial, transportation, or utility design experience with responsibility for independently producing coordinated drawing packages.
  • 2D and 3D CAD-based design development using MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other related structural and civil design platforms.

Valued Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
Compensation Range$68,325 - $104,385 Transparency StatementSargent & Lundy discloses compensation ranges that comply with all local and state regulations. The total compensation package for eligible positions will include a base salary or an hourly rate and a comprehensive benefits package, reflecting our commitment to rewarding performance and supporting the overall well-being of our employees. Individuals may also be eligible to participate in our yearly discretionary bonus.
