You will be a part of highly creative and efficient multi-disciplinary BIM design team, tasked with designing challenging and complex projects with innovative solutions for Amazon-owned data center facilities. You will provide support to our Design Engineering team through the preparation of Structural BIM models and documentation, leveraging BIM data. You will influence data center design documents for: structural systems, exterior envelope design, site and civil planning, material lifecycle and sustainability, seismic considerations, and building code compliance. You will produce and maintain Structural drawing sets for our fleet of data centers.
Key job responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will include designing the Structural systems for our data centers, utilizing Revit to create and maintain BIM models. You must be able to work independently with occasional guidance, and work within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks. This includes working with internal groups, as well as external suppliers, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
Your duties will include:
- Being self-motivated to work within the BIM Designer group and across other teams.
- Preparing and developing detailed Structural Revit models.
- Developing and publishing construction documentation for Structural building system designs in a fast-paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
- Creating and maintaining regional and global libraries, including Revit Families, Details, and Detail Components.
- Updating and modifying existing models, studies, and construction documents, as required.
- Assisting the creation and maintenance of BIM templates and enforcing BIM standards.
- Participating in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
- Working on concurrent projects in multiple geographic locations.
- Assisting information exchange processes between internal and external customers in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
- Recording and reporting key metrics to management.
- Traveling to data center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys, as required. On average: once or twice a year.
- Being positive and always offering creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
- Having fun and working hard!
A day in the life
As a Designer, you will collaborate across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs. Your work includes creating detailed models, drawings, specifications, and prototypes, and updating managers and leaders on changes to the building and site design. You engage in design discussions, review feedback from peers and collaborators, and adjust designs to ensure our data center solutions meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.
In this role, you'll receive coaching and guidance from experienced managers and leaders who will help develop your technical and professional skills. You'll be expected to proactively seek feedback, participate in regular check-ins, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining open communication with all stakeholders.
