Full Job Description
As the Structural and Building Envelope Engineer, you will be responsible to ensure safe, durable and efficiently operable City-owned building infrastructure by providing structural and building envelope engineering investigation, analysis, and advice. Infrastructure includes fire halls, recreation facilities, transit garages, park facilities, community associations, maintenance workshops, office buildings, and site structures. Primary duties include:
  • Provide structural and building envelope design reviews to City business unit owners, project managers, and external consultants to confirm design best practices, appropriate material and component selection, durability, completeness, constructability, and capital and life cycle cost estimates.
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of engineering design guidelines for City owned buildings and site structures.
  • Help business units manage facility condition assessments and lifecycle planning processes, including external consultant engagement and reviewing quality assurance reports.
  • Provide engineering advice on existing and proposed buildings and site structures to maintain, repair and preserve City owned facilities managed by the corporation, civic partners or community groups.
  • Regularly schedule existing facility and construction site visits as required.
Qualifications
  • A related Engineering degree and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Experience in building envelope and/or structural design and review is required. Primary experience in building envelope would be preferable for the current role.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional status will be an asset.
  • Experience in structural and/or building envelope assessment and restoration of heritage buildings would be an asset.
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to contribute to a team effort utilizing a consultative and collaborative approach.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for assessing complex and uncommon engineering issues, recognizing potential design issues, and resolving technical and operational issues for clients of different technical abilities and understanding.
