The Opportunity:

Perform structural analysis tasks through hand calculations, computer aided modeling, and component testing for ground, airborne, and space based opto-mechanical systems to ensure products meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring products meet structural requirements defined by external customer, internal disciplines, and industry standards.
  • Conducting analytical predictions for fundamental structural concerns (stress, strain, fatigue, fracture mechanics, thermal expansion, dynamic response, bolt failure, loads, mode shapes, random vibration, shock response, etc.)
  • Conducting structural analysis using traditional hand calculations (Rourk, Perterson, Steinber, etc.), finite element analysis (FEMAP, NASTRAN), and mathematical software (Matlab, AFGROW, VA-One, etc.)
  • Participating and/or conducting test activities that include component tap tests, system modal survey, random vibration, sine burst, system dynamic characterization, mechanism control, material property determination, proof testing, damping measurements. This would include correlating measured test results to model predictions.
  • Exposure to aerospace products including mirror assemblies, electro-optical sensors, telescopes, sensor windows, precision mechanisms, airborne and space-based payloads.
  • Supporting all phases of design and development which includes IRAD, conceptual design, proposals, preliminary design, detailed design, requirement verification, testing, assembly, integration, alignment, transportation, and customer support.
  • Candidates should be capable of working autonomously at times, with mentoring and supervision available as required. The position requires interaction across internal engineering and program groups. Candidates should be capable of maintaining cost and schedule on individual activities. Effective documentation and presentation skills are desired.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BSAE / BSME (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant experience OR MSAE / MSME (or equivalent) and 2 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of structural finite element analysis and traditional hand calculations
  • Knowledge of fundamental structural concepts (stress/strain, buckling, fatigue, detrimental yielding, dynamics, natural frequency, frequency response, etc..)

Desired:

  • Active U.S. Government Security Clearance
  • Knowledge of FEMAP, NASTRAN, VA-One, SigFit, AFGROW,, MATLAB
  • Experience with space structures, launch and orbital environments
  • Knowledge of optical assemblies
