Overview

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for leading and acting as the point of contact for end-to-end purchasing life cycle of the materials including planning and executing purchase orders, determining transport for these orders on/off site, executing agreements, expediting material, and resolving quality and invoice issues. This position will ensure materials are purchased at the lowest total cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need. The Strategic Sourcing Specialist will partner with Category team to build and leverage category strategies and manage supplier performance. They are responsible for tactical purchasing activities of assigned commodities while establishing and maintaining excellent vendor and internal customer relationships. They follow, improve, and maintain processes and systems utilized by the company to perform buying related tasks and functions.

Location: This position can be located at one of our office locations daily: Fargo, ND; Indianapolis, IN; Clinton, IN; Dallas, TX; or Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops, plans, generates, adjusts, and expedites purchase orders based upon requisitions, project insights, interpretation of drawing take-offs, BOM, and inventory strategies
  • Leads inititiaves to expedite tracking and monitoring of purchase orders in the most efficient and effective manner, keeping informed and mitigating any problems and delays, communicating any impacts or constraints to the Planner and Project Manager
  • Distributes and facilitates day-to-day communication with supplier to ensure on time delivery, system data integrity, and ordering parameters for individual materials
  • Communicates site access map to supplier along with all relevant transport and communication information to supplier
  • Ensures suppliers are in compliance with safety, quality, and performance requirements
  • Builds strong knowledge of category, including manufacturing process, key supplier capabilities, pricing and should cost models, and new and emerging technology
  • Reviews spend trends and market projections to support sourcing decisions and maintain competitiveness for assigned commodities
  • Facilitates meetings internally and externally to manage, track, and expedite orders
  • Maintains clear communication channels with internal stakeholders regarding deviation from best practices if project delivery dates are at risk of being compromised or delayed
  • Verifies requisition data and resolves discrepencies through detailed communication with requisitioners and suppliers
  • Participates in vendor negotiations and identifies deviations from standard contract terms
  • Coordinates with internal stakeholders including Legal, Commercial Services, Permitting, Insurance, Accounting, and Preconstruction to ensure contract compliance and proper documentation
  • Owns purchase book order; ensures data cleanliness, completeness, and reliability of data from requisition to payment of invoice
  • Oversees vendor submittals related to materials and ensures the processes are being followed in a timely manner and resolves issues as they arise
  • Provides input to Project Scheduling team for project schedules, including vendor submittal lead times, applicable material lead times, and any changes in schedule for executed purchase orders
  • Participates in regular buisness reviews with suppliers to review performance including safety, quality, timeliness, and competitiveness
  • Maintains procurement data, supports KPI reporting, and assists with project closeout and administrative procurement activities
  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 1-4 years related experience in purchasing, planning, or a related Supply Chain function
  • Experience within construction industries preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of construction processes, materials, purchasing processes and procedures
  • Data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to be accurate, precise, and follow set procedures and standards
  • Collaboration, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • When visiting jobsites the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
