Role description:Arcadis is looking for a
Stormwater/Stream Restoration Engineer to join our Resilience Water Team in Arlington, Virginia!
Collaborating with our experienced Water Professionals, you will support and lead the development of stream restoration and ecological enhancement projects, interact and work with clients, and continue to grow your technical and project management capabilities. Role accountabilities:As a
Stormwater/Stream Restoration Engineer, you will evaluate, plan, design, permit, and support the management of stream restoration, natural channel design, and watershed improvement projects. This role includes leading tasks and supporting project delivery from concept through construction, including coordination with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies. You may also support professional engineering services during construction, including construction observation, review of shop drawings, responses to requests for information (RFIs), and permit closeouts.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Perform, lead, and coordinate field assessments, data collection, and analysis for stream restoration projects, including geomorphic evaluations, hydraulic modeling, and watershed assessments.
- Develop and support stream restoration design plans, including grading, stabilization measures, in-stream structures, and riparian enhancements.
- Prepare and review hydrologic and hydraulic models and support floodplain and channel stability analyses.
- Lead task-level project delivery, including developing scopes of work, managing budgets and schedules, and coordinating internal teams and subconsultants.
- Support and contribute to preparing proposals and building strong client relationships.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies, support permitting efforts, and compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Support preparation of reports, design documents, presentations, and other deliverables, and actively participate in client meetings and stakeholder coordination.
- Ensure project compliance with Arcadis practices and quality, health, and safety standards, and facilitate timely and on-budget project delivery.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and technical staff.
- Work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, with flexibility to engage with team members across regions.
- Travel may be required for field work, site assessments, client meetings, and construction site visits.
Qualifications & Experience:Required QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience in stream restoration, natural channel design, or related water resources engineering, hold a bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Biological Systems, or a related field of study, and possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Preferred QualificationsThe preferred candidate will have strong experience delivering stream restoration projects, including field assessments, design, permitting, and construction support. They will demonstrate project leadership capabilities, including managing scopes, budgets, and schedules, as well as coordinating multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff. Experience working with municipal clients and watershed-scale projects is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will have experience with stream classification and assessment methodologies (such as Rosgen methods, BEHI/NBS, or similar), as well as familiarity with nutrient reduction programs, particularly within the Chesapeake Bay region. Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS is preferred. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a passion for ecological restoration and sustainable water solutions are essential.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $145,000/year. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
