Full Job Description
Overview

The Shipyard Test Organization is seeking a highly engaged and motivated Mechanical Test Instructor within the D272 STO Training Branch for both Virginia Class and Columbia Class programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for the training and development of current Test Directors as well as newly hired submarine test personnel.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • This individual will be responsible for establishing a mechanical curriculum, manage course training materials, administer qualification and training records, and conduct classroom and practical training for STO test personnel.   
  • The successful candidate shall have the ability to develop curriculum from technical requirements, conduct training and evaluate test technician knowledge and proficiency.  
  • Conduct hourly and salary onboarding in the Active Learning Center.
  • Evaluate personnel during probationary process and provide ongoing feedback of cohorts to the STO Chief of Staffing & Development.
  • Develop and implement ongoing just in time training for Technicians and Test Supervision based on lessons learned
  • Maintain awareness and facilitate completion computer-based training up to date for all department personnel as well as in-person training event attendance
  • Development and delivery of STO continuing training program to include but not limited to: Land-based Steaming qualifications, School of the Boat training, calibration, mechanical / electrical interface testing
  • Flexible schedule to support training of personnel on various shifts.
Qualifications

Required

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret or higher clearance
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of experience with submarine mechanical systems or naval experience

Preferred

  • Previous training experience
  • Previous U.S. Navy operational or shipboard test experience   
  • Knowledgeable in both Steam & Electric Plant and Hull, Mechanical & Electrical Test equipment and procedures

  • Computer skills including MS Office Suite
  • Applicants must have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with personnel from a variety of backgrounds and base knowledge levels.
