This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan or Milford, Michigan three times per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday), at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].

The Role:

The Vehicle Mechatronics and Embedded Controls - Evolving Business organization is at the center of any technology that enables the vehicle to move, turn and stop. VMEC is responsible for the development and deployment of complex embedded controllers specific to propulsion and chassis control systems utilizing the principles of agile. These controllers support cutting edge features, such active safety, autonomous, trailer braking, and crab walk. The race is on to deliver engaging and meaningful in-vehicle experiences! You can flex your teamwork muscles as you will be tasked with working with several other areas of engineering and the business.

What You'll Do:

We are seeking an experienced Steering Agile Release Train Lead (ART Lead) to guide and optimize the delivery of value across multiple agile teams. This role is crucial for ensuring alignment, fostering collaboration, and driving continuous improvement in our software development lifecycle.

The mission of the ART Lead is to ensure the Agile Release Train works effectively by improving workflow. Within their ART they serve as a lean agile coach, facilitate ART events, and provide process leadership. The ART Lead identifies best practices, standardizes processes and methods; customizing agile solutions as needed to meet organizational needs. They communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help to manage risk and dependencies. They are a driving force of continuous improvement for their teams.
  • Lead and facilitate all ART events, including PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops.
  • Coach and mentor Scrum team memebers and development teams within the ART to foster agile mindsets and practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, System Architects, and other stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of the ART's vision, roadmap, and priorities.
  • Identify and remove impediments that hinder the ART's progress, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the ART, leveraging data and feedback to optimize processes and increase efficiency.
  • Ensure the ART adheres to General Motors' engineering standards, architectural guidelines (including Data Architecture principles), and quality assurance practices.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams, promoting a culture of transparency and shared ownership.
  • Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle for the ART, including coding, debugging, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Report on ART performance, progress, and key metrics to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.


Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in controls system development.
    Such as: Automotive chassis control system integration and testing of hardware and software; Vehicle electrical systems and serial data communications architectures; Automotive system, software, and hardware requirements development and validation;
  • Proven experience in Cross-Functional Team Leadership within a complex software development environment.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of the agile principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in Software Development, including proficiency in Software Coding and Debugging.
  • Solid understanding of Test methodologies and practices.
  • Familiarity with Data Architecture concepts and their application in software solutions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to facilitate large group meetings and workshops effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Strong sense of urgency and ownership
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills
