Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Florida Department of Health is seeking an experienced and highly skilled public health nursing professional to serve as the Statewide Public Health Nursing Leader. This leadership position provides clinical direction, oversight, and statewide coordination for public health nursing services across Florida's 67 County Health Departments (CHDs).

The Statewide Public Health Nursing Leader serves as the statewide clinical practice leader, offering training, technical assistance, onsite reviews, and strategic guidance to ensure compliance, readiness, and alignment with statewide clinical standards. This role provides nursing direction and evaluation across a broad portfolio of public health programs, including communicable disease, immunizations, epidemiology, family planning, school health, chronic disease prevention, preparedness and response, and community health promotion.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide statewide leadership for clinical practice, ensuring consistency, compliance, and alignment with standards and evidence-based guidelines across CHDs.
• Conduct trainings, technical assistance visits, and onsite reviews to strengthen local clinical operations and improve service delivery.
• Direct and evaluate nursing activities across a wide range of public health programs, supporting high-quality and patient-centered care.
• Develop, update, and standardize statewide clinical and public health policies, protocols, and operational guidance.
• Identify and disseminate best practices; integrate performance management into clinical operations; monitor clinical quality and key performance indicators.
• Use financial tools to assess program impact and sustainability; analyze trends and quality improvement data; develop standardized tools that enhance effectiveness and safety.
• Serve as a primary advisor on emergency preparedness and response related to clinical capacity and Special Needs Shelter (SpNS) operations.
• Function as the SpNS Unit Coordinator for State ESF-8 during emergencies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

This position requires extensive experience in the management and administration of public health programs, essential public health services, health policy issues, and engagement with community partners. Applicant must have working knowledge of clinic management, policies and procedures, and program implementation. Strong leadership and relationship skills are paramount. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of clinical fiscal and budget management, human resource management, information systems, public health nursing and extensive knowledge in program evaluation and use of quality management tools and methods.

Qualifications:

A preferred candidate has a clear license as a registered nurse in Florida in the state of Florida and a minimum of 4 years experience as a director of nursing at a CHD. Also, preference will be given to those nursing candidates with a senior leadership background and executive management experience.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $122,000 annually.
