Our SALT practice is made up of 300+ professionals across the U.S., providing a full spectrum of services including Income & Franchise, Sales & Use, Real & Personal Property, and Unclaimed Property. As a member of this talented team, you will help clients capitalize on strategic ideas and planning techniques that ensure state and local tax compliance, reduce expenses and enhance cash flow, and effectively manage their multistate income and franchise tax obligations.

What you’ll do:

  • Be a trusted advisor to middle market and Fortune 500 clients by providing strategic state and local tax consulting and compliance services that lower their effective tax rates, ensure compliance, manage risk, and provide value across the spectrum of state and local taxes.

  • Manage state income and franchise tax compliance engagements, including coordinating the preparation and review of multistate returns, estimates, extensions, and related workpapers.

  • Build, review, and analyze state income tax compliance workpapers including apportionment calculations, state-specific modifications, pass-through entity tax calculations, and alternative planning considerations.

  • Perform initial quality reviews of state income and franchise tax returns and related workpapers, identifying technical issues, inconsistencies, filing considerations, and opportunities before finalization.

  • Manage multi-disciplinary, multi-state reviews that analyze income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, ad valorem, and other taxes to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, credits and incentives and corporate structures that can reduce the client's tax burden.

  • Research state tax issues including nexus determinations, apportionment, taxability analyses, filing requirements, and quantification of potential liabilities.

  • Counsel clients on state and local tax controversies, including performing research, drafting client correspondence, preparing ruling requests, and providing guidance in defending against audits.

  • Plan and execute tax projects requiring a wide scope of expertise, including due diligence and voluntary disclosure projects.

  • Prepare technical memoranda on state and local tax issues for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and LLCs.

  • Maintain active communication with clients, make recommendations for business and process improvements, manage expectations, and identify opportunities to enhance client value.

  • Assist with managing client engagement staffing, scheduling, billings and collections while helping ensure client profitability targets and engagement deadlines are met.

  • Review the work of associates and senior associates, provide timely technical feedback, and coach team members on state income and franchise tax compliance and consulting matters.

  • Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients and the community.

  • Invest in your professional development individually and through participation in firm wide learning and development programs.

  • Support the growth and development of team members through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy, helping associates meet their professional goals.

  • Ability to lead and supervise others, provide exceptional client service, and effectively manage multiple engagements and deadlines.

  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning to stay current regarding applicable strategies.

The pay rate ranges for this position are listed below. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant’s skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements and geographic location. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.

In Houston, TX and Denver, CO: pay rate range is $123,860 to $185,820
