The Atlantic is seeking an experienced Los Angeles–based reporter to grow our coverage of Hollywood and the broader entertainment industry.

This person will join the Culture team and focus on the business and industry of Hollywood. The ideal candidate will have a track record of tackling big ideas in this world and helping readers make sense of the many changes occurring within it. You’ll write—with a lively voice—about decision-makers in and around Hollywood; the debates, controversies, and legal battles that are animating the industry; and the behind-the-scenes shifts that are influencing the cultural landscape at large. 

You should have a nuanced understanding of how business, technology, and national politics intersect with the culture industry. You’ll be experienced at both moving fast—delivering scoops and timely analysis—and executing deeply reported stories for a general-interest audience on longer timelines. And you’ll be eager to uncover stories that haven’t yet been told, with the creativity and drive to figure out the best way to tell them. Writers with significant expertise on this beat as well as general-interest reporters with relevant experience are both welcome to apply. This position will at times include night, early-morning, and weekend work.

• Substantial experience as a reporter, with a demonstrated ability to shape the conversation about culture and the culture industry

• A magazine sensibility, exceptional writing skills, and a strong interest in ideas-based journalism

• Very high standards for clarity, accuracy, and journalistic rigor

• A naturally collaborative spirit and desire to work within a close-knit team

• A drive to be in the mix on urgent and consequential stories

Salary minimum: $120,000; Salary maximum: $180,000
