Responsibilities:

  • Architect, develop, and enhance Java/Spring and React applications supporting scientific workflows for variant identification, curation, ranking, and clinical reporting.

  • Design and own data models, APIs, and search/query strategies that make large-scale genomic variant data fast and precise to filter, faceted, and retrieve at scale.

  • Partner directly with scientific and clinical subject matter experts to translate complex domain requirements into clear, well-scoped technical designs.

  • Lead design and development of scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions, and drive alignment on technical direction across teams through design docs and architecture reviews

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across the stack, resolve root causes, and measurably improve system reliability, observability, and performance.

  • Use AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly to accelerate delivery, and help the team establish good practices for their use.

  • Advocate for best practices in software engineering, code quality, automated testing, and CI/CD.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on full-stack application development.

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to lead by example and mentor engineers.

  • Strong expertise in cloud-based solutions and experience integrating third-party software into existing systems.

  • Extensive experience in building service-oriented architectures and designing RESTful API services to support scalable and maintainable applications.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges efficiently.

  • Effective communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience with search and query technologies such as OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including index and mapping design, query performance tuning, and faceted filtering over large datasets.

  • Experience and familiarity working in Java / Spring, React.

  • Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL technologies (OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, MongoDB, DynamoDB

Preferred Experience:

  • Master's degree

  • Experience in scientific, genomics, or healthcare-related applications is a plus.
