Full Job Description
The ATLAS Department in the Fundamental Physics Directorate of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) seeks an outstanding candidate for a Staff Scientist position. The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in the construction of the ATLAS Tracker (ITk) of the LHC High Luminosity Upgrade.

The ITk will comprise a pixel detector surrounded by a strip detector. The innermost two layers of the pixel detector are designed to be replaceable and are designated as the Pixel Inner System. The Inner System is the US deliverable to the ITk Pixel Upgrade. SLAC is responsible for the loading of the modules on local supports and the integration of the loaded local supports into large mechanical structures called quarter-shells. The Inner System will be assembled into two EndCaps and a Barrel which will be subsequently shipped to CERN for final assembly. SLAC is also responsible for the development and the fabrication of the high speed data transmission cables and an electrical patch panel located in the heart of the detector.

The successful candidate is expected to be involved in all the loading and integration activities and work closely with the whole ATLAS ITk team which consists of about 15 people. The successful candidate will also have the option to contribute to physics analysis.

We are looking to a Ph.D. in Physics or relevant subject. Experience with detector hardware is required. Experience of managing teams of engineers, technicians, physicists is highly recommended.
