Full Job Description
Reporting to the Head PIC, the Staff Pharmacist plays a critical role in the healthcare industry by ensuring the safe and effective use of medications. The primary responsibilities of the Staff Pharmacist involve dispensing prescription medications, providing education on medication use, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform initial review and clinical verification of medications/prescriptions, including checking for drug interactions, therapy duplication, and clinical issues based on patient's age, medical conditions, and status.
  • Conduct final verification on filled medications to ensure correct product usage, absence of damage, intact blister packs, and no missing pills, adhering to quality assurance standards.
  • Ensure accurate entry of prescriptions and verify correct typing of prescriptions. Accurately perform data entry for various types of prescriptions.
  • Controlled medication inventory functions including checking in orders per DEA regulations, documentation, online ordering and inventory management, and ensuring appropriate storage.
  • Utilize MedBank for prescription verification and controlled medication emergency dispensing (training provided).
  • Conduct daily checks on ancillary items which may include emergency kits, MedBank cubes, and DOSIS canisters, ensuring they are properly stocked, and medications are within expiration dates.
  • Review prescriptions, contacting facilities or prescribers as necessary to address any issues.
  • Monitor and manage workflow to ensure prescriptions are filled accurately and on time.
  • Evaluate orders that are held for payer issues and determine if emergency supply should be provided during the review process.
  • Prepare/Oversee sterile and non-sterile compounding as needed.
  • Handle telephone orders from prescribers and delegate prescriptions as required.
  • Address inquiries from technicians and provide guidance on pharmacy procedures.
  • Manage electronic communications with staff and facilities, ensuring timely responses.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education & Experience: Doctorate of Pharmacy; Active State Pharmacist license, State license to handle medication; and 1-3 years of pharmaceutical experience; or an equivalent mix of education and experience, 2-4 years long term care pharmacy experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Intermediate proficiency with Pharmacy and medication distribution software (Pyxis Medbank, Frameworks) Experience with long term care pharmacy software preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as medication documentation, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence; ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts and graphs.
