The Staff Pharmacist is an integral part of the Express Scripts Specialty Distribution Services (ESSDS) team. ESSDS Pharmacists are trained on the specialty medications dispensed and medical conditions encountered in the unique patient population serviced. The position entails patient care and requires frequent use of clinical knowledge/discretion due to the complexity of the therapies and conditions they treat. Staff Pharmacists are responsible for ensuring required REMS counseling and other requirements are met in the patient's course of therapy and are often escalation point to ensure any needs are addressed. Unique aspects of this role include: pharmacovigilance reporting, acting as clinical subject matter expert for a niche area, and support of large team of other pharmacists.
This role is not work-site dependent which allows most work to be performed at home or on occasion at a Cigna office location.
This position is a remote position for candidates that reside in AZ, FL, IN, MO, or PA.*Please note, IL candidates must reside within an hour of our St. Louis, MO site and would work fulltime onsite.The pharmacy is open 7am-8pm CT, Monday - Friday shift times will occur during pharmacy hours.
On call shift is required roughly one time per year, shift typically would be Friday 8pm CT to Monday 7am CT for any emergent calls.
Mandatory overtime can be necessary to meet business needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Support incoming call queue and provide assistance to prescribers, patients, caregivers, or other parties
- Counsel patients or caregivers regarding the use of medications and any potential drug or disease state interactions
- Report adverse events, product quality complaints, noncompliance events, and/or additional reports to meet pharmacovigilance/REMS program responsibilities
- Verify prescription information entered into the pharmacy system according to state, federal, and REMS program guidelines (NOTE: dependent on state of residence)
- Consult prescribers regarding any clinical concerns (such as drug-drug interactions, dose adjustments, etc.)
- Contact doctors and/or patients to verify information on prescriptions such as drug strength, prescription sig., and drug name in order to expedite processing of orders.
- Reconcile patient medical histories against any clinical documents or information received to ensure patient profiles are complete and accurate
- Assist patients with access to medication through conversations with payer/third parties
- Triage complex issues to ensure continuity of care for patients
- Collaborate with internal teams including technicians, reimbursement specialists, nursing, fulfillment, inventory, and manufacturer liaisons
- Provide additional coverage or support for other program tasks as requested by leadership
- Assist with the training and development of newly hired pharmacists
- Provide oversight to pharmacy technicians in required functions
- During on call shift, address clinical concerns by providing expertise and/or counseling outside of normal business hours
QUALIFICATIONS- Current pharmacist license in good standing required (NOTE: Candidates must hold a license in their state of residence)
- Advanced problem solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments and medical professionals to resolve issues.
- Strong focus on customer service, interpersonal skills, quality and accuracy
- Robust writing and communication skill
- Ability to manage timelines and meet tight client deadlines.

- Basic working knowledge of email, Word, Excel, OneNote, and general computing.

For this position, we anticipate offering an hourly rate of 54 - 91 USD / hourly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
