Staff Mechanical Engineer to serve as a mechanical engineering subject matter expert responsible for leading design execution, mentoring technical staff, supporting project development, and delivering safe, reliable, constructable, and cost-effective solutions for industrial clients. The role provides technical leadership throughout project execution while advancing EAD standards, client relationships, and business growth.
Responsibilities- Lead mechanical system design from concept through construction documentation, clearly communicating technical requirements to clients, project teams, installers, and subcontractors while managing engineering hours, material costs, quality, and schedule.
- Develop practical, maintainable, and cost-effective solutions to mechanical system designs and technical problems considering engineering, equipment, material, installation, operations, and lifecycle requirements.
- Prepare, review, and approve mechanical specifications, calculations, equipment layouts, piping layouts, and design documentation for compliance with applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, project requirements, and EAD standards.
- Lead mechanical quality reviews and interdisciplinary design reviews to ensure accurate, coordinated, code-compliant, and constructable deliverables, including specifications, equipment layouts, HVAC, plumbing, utility, and process piping designs.
- Identify and communicate technical risks, evaluate alternatives, and provide documented engineering recommendations to clients and project leadership.
- Specify and aid in our clients' procurement of process and mechanical equipment, including but not limited to tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, dust collection, and HVAC.
- Develop and design HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for industrial facilities to meet specifications including, but not limited to, throughput, load capacity, size range, and building clearances.
- Develop engineering scopes, conceptual designs, capital cost estimates, proposal content, and complete RFP packages for equipment and services.
- Serve as primary mechanical technical contact for clients and project teams.
- Lead multidisciplinary coordination, resolve technical conflicts, document design decisions, and drive action items to completion to ensure integrated project outcomes and design integrity.
- Provide field engineering support during installation, commissioning, and startup.
- Provide responsible technical direction during construction, including submittal reviews, responses to field questions, and evaluation of installation conformance with design intent.
- Support business growth through proposal strategy, scope development, estimating, technical presentations, and client engagement.
- Mentor and develop engineers and designers through technical guidance, design reviews, coaching, and knowledge transfer activities.
- Responsible for adhering to all EAD's safety standards and practices.
- Develop, maintain, and improve EAD mechanical engineering standards, templates, design guides, procedures, and best practices.

Requirements:- B.S. Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 6 or more years of mechanical engineering and industrial facility design experience.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with clients, vendors, and in-house staff.
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to handle several projects simultaneously.
- Must be proactive in nature, have a good mechanical aptitude, and an ability to work and manage multiple tasks at the same time.
- Must be able to review complex project requirements and mechanical layouts outlining specific risks, concerns, mitigations, and improvements.
- Transparent and direct communicator with the ability to identify roadblocks and clear them or escalate to upper management.
- Ability to collaborate with other subject matter experts and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated and optimized solutions.
- Working knowledge of mechanical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of AutoCAD. Experience with Navisworks, ReCap, point-cloud workflows, or similar coordination tools is preferred.
- Proficient with Excel spreadsheets including macros.
- Possess and able to maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred Certifications and skills- Experience in mechanical design, engineering process plants, and overall facility design.
- Food, Parcel, or Life sciences industry experience preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, mechanical and plumbing codes, and NFPA standards.
- HVAC, heat transfer, drying processes, utility/piping and/or plumbing systems experience preferred.

- Ability to walk up numerous flights of stairs/ladders multiple times a day and/or work in tight spaces in extreme conditions
- May work near moving mechanical parts and equipment*
- Office, Commercial and/or Industrial setting with the potential of exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals*
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.*
- Periodic weekend, holiday or evening work as needed
- Travel required
*EAD will provide training, administrative/engineering controls, and personal protective equipment as necessary.
