In this position...
The Staff Electrical System Architecture Engineer will be responsible for overall electrical system performance and reliability. The successful candidate will lead trade studies associated with various system architecture proposals to help make a cross functional decision on the most suitable system architecture considering system requirements, program deliverables, available resources, and other constraints.

The staff electrical system architecture engineer will play a leading role for root causing system issues through modeling, reviewing test results, and performing other relevant studies. In this role, you will be working side by side various cross functional teams including but not limited to HV system, LV system, subsystem HW design, application SW, and system functional safety team to provide innovative solutions for improving system performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...
  • Conceptualize, design, engineer, develop, and support the launch of next-generation electrical system architectures for electric vehicles
  • Perform electrical system architecture trade studies to realize efficient system architecture strategies and optimize for cost
  • Map out overall power generation, distribution, and load management to ensure low voltage electrical system's stability and reliability
  • Lead required low voltage system architectural changes to improve system performance
  • Review system interface requirements and device transmittals to propose new electrical system architectures
  • Perform thorough power budget analysis to ensure positive margin under worst case conditions and validate low voltage bus stability
  • Design and validate advanced load shedding strategies to guarantee low voltage bus stability
  • Perform Worst Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA) using advanced analytical tools such as MATHCAD to characterize system performances such as load input voltage, power conversion efficiency, etc.
  • Review ECU / zonal architecture design and propose changes to improve system performance
  • Evaluate the impact of low voltage subsystem (HW & SW) design changes on overall system performance through simulation and bench testing
  • Perform critical design review for low voltage electrical systems and propose design changes to improve system performance including efficiency and safety
  • Characterize low voltage electrical system's steady state and transient performance through high fidelity electrical system modeling
  • Use analytical tools to perform failure mode and effect analyses and ensure system meets the required fault tolerance based on system safety goals
  • Work closely with low voltage system validation engineers to model and characterize system performance under corner cases
  • Provide technical leadership to cross functional teams developing advanced low voltage electrical system architecture
  • Go to expert to diagnose and resolve electrical system issues
  • Lead low voltage electrical system issues root cause analysis and provide Interim Corrective Action (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Action (PCA)
  • Stay up to date with the latest system architecture technologies in the EV industry


Qualifications

You'll have...
  • B.S in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Familiar with latest electrical system architectures in EVs (12V and 48V)
  • Familiar with system communication protocols including LIN, CAN, etc.
  • Experienced with LV system architecture design and interface diagrams
  • Highly skilled in working with cross-functional teams to develop a new system architecture
  • Experienced with using simulation tools such as LT-Spice, PLECS, MATLAB-SIMULINK, etc.
  • Experienced with the latest bidirectional power conversion systems, topologies, and trade-offs
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis tools including but not limited to fish-bone diagram, ABA studies, 8D process and documentation
  • Working knowledge of DFMEA, FMEDA, and functional safety
  • Proven debugging and diagnostic skills in electrical, mechanical, and software domains
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related fields
  • 15+ years of combined HW design and electrical system architecture design experience
  • 10+ years of Power Electronics system design experience
  • In depth knowledge of latest semiconductor technologies including GaNs and SiC-MOSFETs
  • Extensive experience with switching mode power supply design and root cause analysis
  • Highly skilled with advanced problem solving tools such as fish-bone diagram, Design For Six Sigma (DFSS), FA report, 8D documentation, etc.

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $132,800-$250,800.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
