As a Full Time Staff Dentist at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, your primary role will be to deliver essential dental services, focusing on both preventive care and treatment for a diverse patient population. You will be responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating common dental diseases while ensuring that the community has adequate access to high-quality dental care. Your tasks will include performing oral and radiographic examinations, restoring cavities, and administering anesthesia as needed. Additionally, you'll conduct uncomplicated extractions and manage prosthetic dentistry by crafting appropriate restorations, including crowns and dentures. With an emphasis on community health, you will also implement dental health programs aimed at oral disease prevention and patient education.

Your expertise will be crucial in managing the unique needs of patients, including those with behavioral challenges, fostering a supportive and caring environment in the health center.

To thrive as a Full Time Staff Dentist at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills. A graduation from an accredited dental school in the United States is essential, alongside a valid dental license in Nevada or appointment through the USPHS/IHS. Success in this role requires the ability to work effectively in a diverse, minority environment, demonstrating cultural sensitivity while engaging with patients. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills are crucial for examining and treating various dental conditions, as is proficiency with dental tools and technology.

Additionally, candidates must provide evidence of a recent Infectious Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) test to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Excellent patient management and communication skills are vital for addressing the unique needs of the community, particularly those dealing with behavioral challenges.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
  • Graduation from an accredited dental school within the United States.
  • Must be licensed as a dentist in Nevada or a dentist assigned to RSIC by the USPHS/IHS under the USPHS Commissioned Corps or Civil Service System.
  • Must be able to work in a diverse minority environment
  • Must provide evidence of a recent Infectious Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) test showing ONE of the following: 1) a negative Mantoux skin test 2) a negative chest x-ray or 3) a statement from a physician confirming freedom from TB.
