Primary Accountability

The Staff Dentist is responsible for the provision of dental services in a Patient Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care.

Description of Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for the direct provision of dental services meeting all established productivity expectations.
    1. Will provide comprehensive dental examination and will review appropriate x-rays, medical and dental histories to determine a diagnosis.
    2. Expected to document visits accurately utilizing appropriate templates and records relevant data to attain a diagnosis.
    3. Accountable for attaining budgeted visits.
    4. Responsible for meeting clinical care measures.
    5. Accountable for locking records in the 72-hour window.
  2. Responsible for number of diagnostic, preventive and restorative oral procedures.
    1. Evaluate the current health and condition of the patient's teeth to determine the diagnosis of any existing dental condition.
    2. Inform patients on how to prevent dental problems and keep their teeth and mouth as healthy as possible.
    3. Consider treatment methods and explain options with the patient to determine which work best based on their situation.
    4. When appropriate, refer patients to orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists or other specialists for more advanced dental procedures and treatment.
  3. Accountable for providing excellent customer service and care.
    1. Consistently behaves with courtesy when interacting with patients/family members, support staff and Network staff.
    2. Listens to patients/family members and shows an understanding of patients' needs.
    3. Responsible for providing the patient with educational materials and resources appropriate to the patient's health literacy needs.
  4. Accountable for patient status as measured by relevant clinical quality measures.
    1. Dental Provider remains aware of wait time during the daily workflow.
    2. Promotes and participates in daily huddles.
    3. Incorporates the participation of ancillary health team members in managing the care of the patients/families.
    4. Responsible for assisting in the assurance of clinical procedures and the maintenance of up-to-date clinical protocols.
    5. Must consistently observe and assure OSHA, and Standard Precautions are maintained.
    6. Interact with professional medical staff in rendering comprehensive care to mutual patients.
    7. Completes chart and peer review responsibility in a timely manner.
  5. Assists supervisors in planning and implementing new programs for the dental department.
    1. Participates in Network Health Fairs, screening activities and other community outreach events.
    2. Where relevant assist the supervisor with input for performance evaluations of support staff and quality improvement.
    3. Where relevant assist the NDD /CDD with the review and update of clinical policies and procedures.
    4. Where relevant provides feedback and guidance to dental residents and dental assistant externs.
    5. Participate in site and provider meetings in a meaningful way.
    6. Responsible for participating with "On Call" coverage, per schedule.
    7. Meets Network and credentialing expectations for licensure, and employment.
  6. Responsible for adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy, recognizing that regular attendance is considered an essential function of all FHCN positions. Absenteeism is not being at work or failing to attend a paid workshop, training, or event unless the absence is protected by law.
  7. Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Description of Primary Attributes

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

Effective June 1, 2026, all individuals hired into the role must:
  1. Possesses specific advanced knowledge and skills, including written and verbal communication skills, computational, computer, and technical skills, and mathematical knowledge, frequently acquired through one of the following:
    1. Completion of a Master's Degree or Doctoral-level Degree program with a recognized major and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; or
    2. Successful attainment and maintenance of a valid, active professional license required for the role, issued by the appropriate governing or regulatory body.
  2. Performance of the duties and responsibilities of the job requires the equivalent of extensive formal training in Dental studies, including an understanding of the application of the theory and practices of the profession to the operations of the organization, usually in the form of a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine Doctor degree.
  3. Have a minimum credit score of 650.

Technical Skills:
  1. Ability to create highly complex documents in Microsoft Word, including linking multiple files and embedding objects linked to other documents.
  2. Ability to use advanced functions of Microsoft Excel, such as to create and manage databases, including creating standardized reports, or linking multiple worksheets and workbooks.
  3. Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions and other elements.

Licenses & Certifications: Licensed in the state of California as a Dentist.

Communications Skills:
  1. Requires the employee to effectively communicate their professional opinions and extrapolations of information they collect and synthesize/analyze.
  2. Employees must determine appropriate methods of communicating information through the use of tables, graphs, charts, and other visual forms.
  3. Duties require the preparation and execution of presentations to large groups.

$178,404.65 - $285,447.44 + PLUS SIGNIFICANT ADDITIONAL ANNUAL EARNING POTENTIAL through outpatient productivity and quality pay, generous retention payments, shift differential pay, and extra shift pay. Sign-on bonus/relocation assistance, annual CME days and reimbursement also available. Generous health and wellness benefits and retirement packages offered.
