Full Job Description
The Role:

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will lead the technical strategy for our core product experience. You will move between high-level strategy, insightful data analysis and hands-on engineering to solve our most complex challenges: Matching Optimization, Growth Flywheels and Marketplace Health. You are a full-stack practitioner who can identify a friction point in the booking flow, build a predictive model to solve it, and work with engineering to ship it to production. You will define what "success" looks like for new product verticals, build the intelligent systems that power them and partner with leadership to ensure the growth of Kindred into the future.

You Will:
  • Act as a Strategic Thought Partner: Partner directly with Product Managers and other leaders to frame key business problems, define our measurement strategy, and guide product innovations.
  • Architect Marketplace Intelligence: Build and deploy sophisticated predictive models to refine Kindred's matching algorithms, optimizing for growth, trust and liquidity.
  • Lead and Scale Experimentation: Own the end-to-end experimental framework, applying advanced causal inference to measure the ripple effects of product changes on community sentiment and marketplace health.
  • Own the Full-Stack Data Lifecycle: Lead the design of robust event structures with Product Engineers and collaborate with Data Engineering to build a scalable data platform that ensures our data is "born clean" and ready for modeling.
  • Influence and Educate: Translate complex analytical concepts into clear, actionable recommendations and effectively persuade senior stakeholders to adopt data-informed strategies.

You may be a fit for this role if you:
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in a quantitative role such as data science, with a proven track record of influencing strategy at a leadership level, preferably within a consumer tech or marketplace company.
  • Are a Full-Stack Practitioner: You are an expert in SQL and Python/R, with a proven ability to move a project from a whiteboard concept to a production-grade ML model, and experience with modern data warehouses.
  • Mastery of Causal Inference and Experimental Design: You have deep experience going beyond simple A/B tests to measure product impact in networked environments where interference and spillover are present.
  • Leadership & Influence: You have exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to simplify complex concepts and persuade senior stakeholders to trust the data and embrace new measurement strategies.

Bonus points if you:
  • Think in Systems, not just Features: You naturally consider "spillover effects"-understanding how a boost in one area of the platform might impact another part of the community ecosystem, understanding the delicate balance between host and guest needs in a high-trust, community-driven environment.
  • Are a Technical Force Multiplier: You have a track record of leveling up the teams around you, setting the standard for code quality, and effectively communicating complex technical risks to non-technical partners.
  • Are passionate about the sharing economy and building a world where everyone feels at home anywhere.

Our Benefits:

At Kindred, we know that good things happen when we look out for one another. We offer a thoughtful, human-first benefits package designed to support health, wellbeing, and connection.

Our openings may span more than one career level. The base salary offered depends on factors such as experience, transferable skills, business needs, impact, and market data.
  • Competitive cash compensation and equity
  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Flexible time off, plus 12 paid holidays per year
  • 21 credits per year to stay in Kindred homes
  • $4,000 annual travel stipend to help offset travel-related costs
  • Remote-first and remote-flexible work environment, with opportunities to work from anywhere and gather in person, including at Kindred HQ in San Francisco
  • Regular team and company offsites to connect, collaborate, and build together
  • A vibrant, inclusive, and highly skilled team that ferociously protects team chemistry
  • A culture of high standards, feedback, and continual growth
