The Worldwide Workplace Health and Safety Governance team seeks a Sr. Risk Manager to own the end-to-end management of regulatory interactions across North America, requiring deep multi-jurisdictional fluency in federal and state plan enforcement, citation interpretation, penalty assessment strategy, abatement compliance, and agency correspondence including inspections, subpoenas, and complaint investigations. This leader will assess and prioritize regulatory exposure, litigation risk, and financial impact across a high-volume case portfolio while driving cross-functional alignment with Legal, Operations, WHS field teams, and Standards & Procedures to ensure responses satisfy both regulatory obligations and operational feasibility. The role demands the ability to leverage serious injury data and regulatory interaction trends to inform proactive risk mitigation strategies, brief VP+ leaders on emerging risks, translate complex enforcement actions into actionable guidance for site-level teams, and coach risk managers in building regulatory response capabilities. The successful candidate will move with urgency on time-sensitive matters while maintaining the documentation rigor and sound judgment that ensures long-term regulatory defensibility across all active matters.

A day in the life

A typical day for the Sr. Risk Manager in WHS Regulatory Response and Activity begins with reviewing overnight regulatory case management notifications of serious injury reports requiring 8-hour or 24-hour agency notification, previous day new inspection activity at sites across North America, and incoming correspondence from OSHA area offices or state plan agencies. By mid-morning, they are triaging their teams active case portfolio, prioritizing time-sensitive matters such as response deadlines, abatement verification due dates, or supporting case managers for preparing a site team with upcoming informal conference with an OSHA area director. They spend a portion of the day coaching their risk managers through complex cases, walking through how to interpret cases on a regulatory basis, advising on what documentation to compile, or reviewing a draft response to a regulatory complaint investigation. Cross-functional collaboration fills the afternoon where you are partnering with Legal on strategy for an escalated events, aligning with WHS Operations leadership on corrective actions that satisfy both abatement requirements and operational feasibility, or working with the WHS S&P team to ensure site execution of a procedure reflects current regulatory obligations. Between meetings, they are analyzing regulatory interaction trends across their portfolio and identifying which regions are seeing increased inspection activity, which categories are recurring, and where proactive intervention could reduce future exposure. They brief senior leadership on emerging regulatory risks, translate complex enforcement actions into clear operational guidance for field WHS teams and precedent risk. The day often closes with one more scan of incoming agency correspondence, ensuring nothing time-sensitive slips through, and updating case tracking systems so the team maintains full visibility across all active regulatory matters.

About the team

The Sr. WHS Regulatory Response and Activity Manager will be responsible for leading a case management team that responds timely and accurately to environmental, safety and health regulatory interactions. We are looking for someone who can manage and contribute to the group's operational excellence by driving the execution of our compliance life cycle and ensuring that high quality compliance inputs are provided in the process. To be successful, one must be comfortable managing the teams working on repetitive case management tasks requiring strong judgment, have the ability to effectively communicate with Sr. Directors and VP stakeholders, both verbally and in writing, and must be able to identify and document improvement opportunities within the processes your teams work on. One must have prior work experience in a professional setting, a cooperative attitude, and organizational skills. The position requires that you be self-motivated to learn the operations and data analytics, and will involve both independent and team work in a fast-paced environment that is constantly changing.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of risk management, audit, legal, compliance or related field work including engaging with external stakeholders experience

- 7+ years of team management with 5 or more direct reports experience

- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment

- Experience working within a global company, with multi-country responsibilities

- Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements

- Experience working with, presenting to and influencing senior executives up to VP level

- Experience defining and executing program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements

- Experience working cross-functionally across several teams both technical and non-technical

- 5+ years of program or project management experience

- Bachelor's Degree

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- MBA, MPH, or graduate degree in safety, compliance, engineering, or related field

- NEBOSH, CSP, or relevant safety/compliance certifications

- J.D. degree or legal background with focus on regulatory compliance

- Demonstrated leadership working across senior levels of leadership in organizations with multiple businesses

- Proven ability to influence decisions of senior business leaders and stakeholders through logical reasoning, relevant data, and presentation of alternative solutions

- Experience with complex problem solving and analysis using statistical methods and data modeling

- Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills

- Ability to quickly earn and maintain trust

- Strong project management skills with ability to transition between strategic thinking and tactical execution

- Experience building effective coalitions and extensive external networks (regulators, trade associations, legal counsel)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
