The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines, and drive projects having an impact on the business. Assigned larger, more important and more complex accounts. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Assist with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers. Viewed as an expert within a product area and able to mentor less experienced underwriters.
What you'll be doing:
- Communicate with Northeast underwriting management and national environmental and energy product line leaders on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate.
- Underwrite and select new business that will produce an underwriting profit.
- Assist with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers.
- Review submissions and identify exposure and risk from information provided.
- Review terms, conditions and pricing.
- Underwrite renewal business and handle related servicing.
- Implement corrective measures on renewal accounts as needed.
- Monitor producers for profitability and production.
- Market products to producers by coordinating marketing plan with regional and national marketing associates.
- Participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required.
What we're looking for:
- Demonstrated technical underwriting knowledge and skills reflective of progression of increasing responsibility;
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and skilled presentation aptitude;
- Technologically savvy; proficient in Word, Outlook, & Excel;
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills;
- Must be a team player that enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment;
- Able to provide coaching to others.
- 3+ years of current underwriting experience in environmental / energy or casualty commercial insurance required;
- Flexible to travel approximately 25% when appropriate.
- Insurance certifications preferred

Pay information:
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary range for the Sr. Underwriter position is $92k/year. - $127k/year with a 25% incentive.
