About this Role

A Senior Commercial Underwriter supports the commercial lending function of the Bank. As an experienced Underwriter you will partner with the -internal' clients involved in the commercial lending function by preparing credit approval offerings for all types of transactions and levels of complexity including but not be limited to new and renewed loan offerings and modifications. You will also serve as a subject matter expert and resource on credit structuring. The ideal candidate will be seeking a career in banking, progressing into Senior Credit Administration or Line of Business roles.

In this Role You Will

  • Prepare credit approval offerings for all types of transactions and levels of complexity. Credit approval documents will include but not be limited to new and renewed loan offerings and modifications. May include various pre- and post-approval activities as necessary.
  • Use independent judgement to identify and mitigate risks, preparing offerings and risk ratings by analyzing credit, collateral and financial worthiness of borrowers, guarantors and credit structure. Ensuring credit quality and portfolio integrity are given the highest consideration when making credit decisions.
  • Be an active participant in the deal team, working closely with relationship managers, senior leaders and credit administration.
  • Be a strategic, forward thinking individual providing provocative insight, Work alongside relationship management in prospecting efforts.
  • Provide recommendations on credit decisions for Executive Loan Committee supported by commentary and analysis. Actively participate in committee presentations and discussion.
  • Handle ongoing portfolio monitoring and servicing with renewals, amendments, modifications and relationship reviews, if applicable. Support covenant monitoring and compliance efforts. Work with Credit Review team to ensure file inconsistencies and inaccuracies are resolved.
  • Support the ongoing development of the Credit Department by serving as a resource and mentor for junior underwriters and analyst.

Qualifications, Competencies and Skills

  • Bachelor Degree required, preferably with a concentration in accounting, finance or economics
  • Master in Business Administration, preferred
  • Completion of a formal commercial credit training program (or equivalent work experience in this field)
  • 10+ years of industry relevant experience
  • Strong capabilities with forecasting, modeling and sensitivity analysis and ability to interpret.
  • Complete knowledge of underwriting activities, practices, tools and considerations, and the ability to manage the complete underwriting process. Expect to serve as a subject matter expert and resource on credit structuring.
  • Motivated team player able to multi-task, work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, and problem solving ability
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required helping to interact with all Management levels, Credit Officers, Bank Examiners, and all other individuals necessary to properly perform the duties of this position.
  • Requires impeccable organizational skills, attention to detail and efficient work methods.
  • Works well in a dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks
  • Self-motivated, demonstrating a high initiative

The range for this role takes into account many factors that First Bank considers when making hiring decisions, including but not limited to prior experience, skill set, training, and other internal business and organizational factors. First Bank generally does not hire at or near the top of the stated range. The range is driven by the geographic location of the anticipated hiring location; however, the specific range may vary depending on the geographic location for remote positions. Compensation decisions depend on the specific facts and circumstances of each hiring instance.

A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is $106,000 - $135,000
