Full Job Description
The Sr. Superintendent provides overall field leadership for large and complex industrial projects involving refractory, corrosion, rubber lining, and scaffolding services. This role is responsible for coordinating field execution, managing multiple crews, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and productivity standards, and serving as the primary point of contact between field operations and project management. The Sr. Superintendent drives operational excellence by mentoring Superintendents, Foremen, and craft personnel, while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with company and client expectations.
Role and Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight
  • Provide overall direction, leadership, and supervision for multiple job sites and crews.
  • Mentor and develop Superintendents, Foremen, and craft workers to strengthen operational capabilities.
  • Enforce corporate safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and client-specific requirements.

Project Execution
  • Oversee field execution of refractory, corrosion, rubber lining, and scaffolding projects, including shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance work.
  • Ensure proper sequencing of work, efficient resource allocation, and adherence to project schedules.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and work plans to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and quality standards.
  • Coordinate daily with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and client representatives regarding progress, challenges, and changes.

Resource & Cost Management
  • Direct manpower planning, including crew sizing, shift assignments, and deployment of specialized trades.
  • Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material consumption, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Identify and resolve field-related issues that could impact budgets, schedules, or client satisfaction.

Compliance & Quality
  • Implement quality assurance/quality control processes to meet technical specifications.
  • Conduct jobsite inspections to verify workmanship and adherence to company standards.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective action planning for safety or quality issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in specialty trade or construction management is a plus.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of industrial construction experience, with at least 5 years in a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large crews and multiple concurrent projects in heavy industrial environments (refineries, petrochemical plants, steel mills, power plants, etc.).
  • Completion of advanced safety training (OSHA 30, MSHA, First Aid/CPR)
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise with clients, vendors, and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in construction management software or tools (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, etc.) is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in industrial field environments, including confined spaces, elevated areas, and areas with exposure to heat, dust, and chemicals.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks such as climbing ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.
  • Tolerance for working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work extended hours, nights, weekends, or holidays as project demands require.
  • The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
