Job Summary:

The Senior Structural Engineer (PE) will serve as the technical and operational leader for the Structural Engineering practice within EDG's Columbus, Ohio office. This role combines hands-on engineering, project leadership, business development support, mentoring, and practice development responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and growing a structural engineering team that mirrors the capabilities, quality standards, and execution excellence demonstrated throughout EDG's other offices.

This position requires a licensed Professional Engineer with strong experience in industrial facilities and infrastructure. Primary market sectors include power generation, electric transmission and distribution, bulk material handling, and oil & gas facilities. The individual will provide technical leadership for structural engineering projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, safe, and cost-effective solutions.

The Senior Structural Engineer will be expected to help expand EDG's presence in the Midwest region through client development, proposal support, recruitment, staff mentoring, and successful project execution.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership
• Serve as Engineer of Record for structural engineering projects or portions of projects and provide final technical review and approval of design deliverables;
• Lead structural engineering design activities for industrial facilities, power generation plants, substations, transmission infrastructure, bulk material handling facilities, and oil & gas facilities;
• Perform structural analysis and design for: structural steel buildings and frames, equipment support structures, pipe racks, conveyor galleries and transfer towers, substation and transmission support structures, industrial concrete structures, foundations and retaining structures and/or existing structure evaluations and modifications;
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes including: IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, OSHA requirements and local building codes and client specifications;
• Develop design criteria, engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents;
• Lead field investigations, site assessments, condition evaluations, and structural inspections;
• Provide technical guidance and quality oversight to other structural engineers, designers, and drafters.

Leadership Expectations

The selected candidate will be expected to:
• Become the technical leader for structural engineering services within the Columbus office;
• Establish a sustainable structural engineering team capable of supporting regional, national, and international projects;
• Promote consistency with EDG's existing structural engineering standards, tools, and processes;
• Contribute to strategic business growth initiatives;
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams;
• Represent EDG professionally at client meetings, industry events, and professional organizations;
• Help position EDG as a preferred engineering partner within the power, T&D, bulk material handling, and oil & gas markets.

Structural Practice Development
• Establish and grow the Columbus structural engineering practice in alignment with EDG's corporate standards and best practices;
• Assist in developing strategic plans for staffing, service offerings, and market expansion;
• Collaborate with leadership to identify growth opportunities within target industries;
• Help establish structural engineering tools, workflows, procedures, standards, and quality management processes;
• Support recruiting efforts and participate in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding structural engineering personnel;
• Build and mentor a team of structural engineers and designers to support office growth.

Project Management and Client Engagement
• Serve as a lead technical resource for multidisciplinary project teams;
• Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and engineering work plans;
• Support proposals, project estimates, and business development activities;
• Interface directly with clients to understand project requirements and develop engineering solutions;
• Participate in client presentations, technical discussions, and project meetings;
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients;
• Identify opportunities for repeat business and additional engineering services.

Collaboration and Mentorship
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in technical design, project execution, and professional development;
• Participate in performance evaluations and career development planning;
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement;
• Promote safety, quality, and accountability throughout all project activities.
