Full Job Description
About the Role:

We are seeking a visionary and technically exceptional Sr. Staff Engineer to lead architectural innovation and strategic technical direction. This individual will operate at the organizational level, shaping the long-term technical landscape, enabling cross-functional execution at scale, and aligning engineering efforts with product and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architectural Vision & Strategy
Define and evolve the architectural vision for customer-facing frontend systems in alignment with business strategy. Lead cross-org initiatives that address long-term scale, system boundaries, and foundational UI capabilities - from design systems to rendering architecture.
  • Frontend Excellence & Performance
Drive front-end excellence across engineering, ensuring the creation of fast, accessible, and visually polished experiences that reflect the Hims & Hers brand. Champion UI performance, accessibility, and responsiveness.
  • Technical Leadership & Governance
Establish patterns and frameworks that ensure quality, resilience, and operational excellence across the organization. Serve as the authority on frontend design decisions and foster alignment across teams. Raise the bar for code quality and engineering standards, ensuring all solutions are robust, testable, observable, maintainable, secure, and scalable.
  • Org-Wide Enablement & Collaboration
Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to shape product direction and ensure our architecture supports strategic goals. Create and promote shared architectural patterns, tools, and infrastructure that improve engineering efficiency and velocity across teams. Drive org-wide adoption of scalable frontend practices, tools, and development norms.
  • Mentorship & Talent Growth
Mentor senior technical leaders and engineers, elevating engineering capabilities across the organization. Champion initiatives that foster talent density, engineering rigor, and a culture of continuous learning. Participate in product discovery sessions to assess feasibility, explore user needs, define product features, and validate ideas with prototypes and experiments.
  • Ambiguity Navigation & Execution Acceleration
Lead through complexity and ambiguity, clarifying direction where ownership is unclear. Remove organizational blockers, simplify decision-making, and accelerate delivery of strategic initiatives. Lead cross-team initiatives from inception through execution, coordinating stakeholders, managing risk, and ensuring delivery on key success metrics.
  • Customer-Centric Engineering
Translate customer needs and product goals into scalable technical solutions. Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to inform technical direction and product enhancements, ensuring a seamless user experience. Define principles and patterns that embed customer obsession into our platform's architecture.
  • Sustainability & Scalability
Design systems and team boundaries to support sustainable growth. Drive investment in non-functional priorities (e.g., observability, migrations, reliability) early in the design process. Proactively identify systemic risks and lead the design and implementation of resilient, observable, and scalable solutions.

What You Bring
  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong record of group-level technical leadership.
  • Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks and libraries (React, Next.js, GraphQL) with production-grade experience delivering high-performance web experiences at scale.
  • Full-stack capability with backend proficiency in Node.js and Python, enabling end-to-end ownership of features and systems.
  • Deep expertise in UI performance, web accessibility, and responsive design.
  • Experience introducing and scaling shared frontend infrastructure, component libraries, or design systems across multiple teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive architectural clarity and strategic technical alignment across functions.
  • Experience translating customer and product needs into reliable, maintainable, and high-impact technical solutions.
  • A track record of driving meaningful improvements in developer experience, team velocity, and system sustainability.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Comfortable navigating high ambiguity and enabling teams to execute effectively in evolving or uncertain environments.

You'll Thrive Here If You:
  • Create alignment and momentum in ambiguous or complex technical spaces.
  • Balance short-term deliverables with long-term scalability, system health, and customer experience.
  • Lead with curiosity, adaptability, and principled decision-making.
  • Take initiative to address cross-squad blockers, scale constraints, or misaligned priorities before they escalate.
  • Drive consistent, action-oriented execution even without perfect clarity.
  • Mentor senior engineering talent and reinforce a culture of growth, feedback, and high technical standards.
  • Inspire confidence through transparency, humility, and deep technical credibility.
  • Advocate for customers through scalable, resilient design that anticipates future scale and evolving user needs.

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):
  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles
  • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days
