What you'll do

Viasat is seeking a driven Network Engineer to take part in our mission of Connecting defense through expanding our communications, networking, and security into sophisticated network operations in SDN, SD-WAN, SD-LAN, and low observable transports, that enables Hybrid Cloud access and AI/ML driven network operations for high capacity, resilient, and intuitive networks.

What's the day-to-day like for this candidate?

Key Responsibilities:
  • Autonomously lead programs and multi-functional teams on complex and high-yield opportunities that span multiple business areas
  • Overall technical responsibility for customer solution engineer through leadership, agile planning, systems engineering approach, and completion of contract work while identifying and mitigating risks, and collaborating with program customers.
  • Work independently to identify and convey needs of the customer / client to business development, engineering and program staff. Communicate benefits of new technology and novel integration to the clients.
  • Display proactive and flexible dedication committed to projects, with ability to both delegate to engineering staff as well as dive into details, assisting in areas of weakness.
    • Own the performance measurement and improvement of our customer's experience on the Viasat Government Segment.
    • Contribute as a leader with a point of view with the ability to guide others in resolving complex issues.
    • Implement expert knowledge of collaborative/consultative working and leadership style, relying on common sense and personal competence for persuasion and consensus building.
    • Work with business area management to assess market and product offerings and opportunities. Represent the overall engineering perspective on the business area's ability to meet cost and schedule market requirements.
    • Steer technical feasibility decisions regarding new products/projects.

What you'll need

  • 10+ years' experience in networking appliance and services delivering integrated products and software development
  • Experience leading multi-disciplined engineering execution with team over diverse geographical locations
  • Proven ability to lead proposal efforts and participate in ongoing business development
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience contributing across product life cycle
  • Experience with requirements management and product management toolsets (Jenkins, Github, Jira, PLM software) or DoD equivalent
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%
  • US Citizenship
  • DoD US Top Secret/SCI Clearance

What will help you on the job

  • In depth knowledge of US Special Operations Command systems, acquisition cycle, and technical roadmaps
  • MS in Engineering (EE, CE, CS)
  • SD-WAN / SD-LAN experience with focus on network function virtualization (NFV), network slicing, and network orchestration.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate, CompTIA Network+ certification or equivalent knowledge / experience
  • Experience with complex government mission systems and service acquisition
  • Knowledge of low-level OS and CPU features such as multi-threading, virtualization, synchronization and memory management on Linux or Linux-like Operating Systems
  • Prior experience working with container technology such as Docker/Kubernetes
  • Background working with cloud platforms including Amazon, Openstack, Microsoft's Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Familiarity with encryption products / processes / architectures
  • Knowledge/Experience of commercial and military satellite communications systems and programs

Salary range

$180,500.00 - $285,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $224,500.00- $336,500.00/ annually
