Senior Product Software Engineer

Metadata & Artwork Team

We're changing the world of streaming video and looking for a skilled Senior Software Engineer to be a key contributor to the team while driving the technical design, implementation, and improvement of services.
Responsibilities

This role involves a range of responsibilities related to software development and management within the Content Metadata domain, emphasizing technical ownership and team impact.

Technical Leadership & Ownership
  • Develop, test, and deploy high-quality, scalable software with code that is easy to evolve and maintain.
  • Plan and execute technical design and implementation of complex and well-architected new solutions.
  • Drive technical ownership of new features and epics that may require coordination with other services or teams.
  • Take a user-centric approach to improving our content management systems and data flows.
  • Partner in project phasing and delivery together with your Manager, Team Leads, Product Managers, and Program Managers.

Engineering Quality & Operational Excellence
  • Contribute to maintain the engineering quality bar by performing detailed, constructive code reviews focused on design, security, and maintainability.
  • Write defensive and robust tests, and implement practices to ensure continuous high-quality delivery.
  • Identify and implement technical improvements in our systems and workflows to enhance operational stability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Own the production environment, including participating in on-call rotation, debugging and resolving complex, cross-service production incidents, and leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

Mentorship & Influence
  • Act as a technical force multiplier by influencing software engineering best practices and standards across the team.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on technical design, best practices, and ownership.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in software development, with a focus on designing and operating high-scale, distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of core Computer Science fundamentals, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Expert proficiency in primary backend languages, including Java and Python.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AWS cloud services (e.g., Lambda, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB), including the ability to architect, secure, and scale solutions within the cloud environment.
  • Full proficiency in Relational databases (MySQL, Postgres) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB).
  • Proven ability to design and implement event-driven architecture and streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, SNS/SQS).
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform, for provisioning and managing cloud resources.
  • Strong technical communication and collaboration skills necessary to lead design reviews and drive technical alignment across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Practical experience with Graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) and query languages like GraphQL for complex metadata structures.
• Familiarity with Full-Stack frameworks (e.g., React, Vue).
• Experience with MCP servers.
The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA is $141,900 - $190,300 per year and in New York, NY is $148,700 - $199,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
