DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a
Sr. System Safety Engineer to support the B-2 program in either
Palmdale, CA or Oklahoma City, OK. The successful candidate will be assigned to develop and deliver System Safety products as required using MIL-STD-882 as guidance.
Essential Functions:- Identification, classification, adjudication, and management of hazards in a closed-loop tracking system
- Cross-IPT coordination to support hazard and safety requirement adjudication
- Communication of safety risk to the appropriate levels
- Being cognizant of the system design and functions
- Preparing and presenting SRR, PDR, and CDR packages to document hazards and associated safety requirements
- Flow down of derived safety requirements to the appropriate IPTs
- CDRL delivery
- Acquiring design cognizance of the aircraft
- Identification, classification, and documentation of Subsystem Hazards and Critical Safety Items (CSIs)
- Mentoring various experience levels of safety engineers
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and at least 9 years of Engineering experience OR at least 7 years with Master's Degree OR at least 4 years with PhD
- Understanding of and experience with a MIL-STD-882 or ARP4754 safety program
- Experience with interfacing to a military customer or safety counterpart
- Must have an active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Software Engineering or Software Safety
- Active TOP SECRET or higher DoD Security Clearance
- Participation in System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) or similar interface meetings (eg. SSGs, WSESRB, SSSTRP, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with SAE ARP4761, MIL-STD-882E, Joint Software System Safety Handbook (JSSSEH), DO-178B/C, MIL-HDBK-516C, DO-254, SAE ARP4754A, and/or AOP-52.
- Experience conducting a Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Probability of Loss of Aircraft (rollup FTA) analysis, Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), or the ARP4754/4761 equivalents.
Primary Level Salary Range: $144,900.00 - $265,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
