Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a DevOps Lead Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

We are seeking a DevOps Lead Engineer to drive strategy, design, and execution of DevOps practices for mission engineering software development. The successful candidate will own end-to-end pipeline management, support CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure improvements in a secure, fast paced environment.

To be successful in this role, you would consider yourself a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct. You will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement and maintain build and deployment pipelines using Bamboo, GitLab, and Jenkins.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to support CI/CD workflows.
  • Develop and maintain processes for DevOps, including software releases, configuration management, data management, automation, and testing
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity to assist in code transfers and merges across networks
  • Collaborate with software development and IT teams to streamline release processes and improve system reliability.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting build failures, deployment issues, and infrastructure bottlenecks.
  • Document processes, configurations, and runbooks for team use.
  • Apply security and compliance practices to DevOps activities in accordance with NG standards.
  • Define and evolve DevOps roadmap aligned with program needs
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work effectively in cross functional teams.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 8 years of related experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of related experience or a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related experience
  • More than 5 years of experience in DevOps, site reliability, or related engineering roles.
  • Experience with Bamboo, GitLab, and/or Jenkins.
  • Experience with software testing frameworks
  • Experience with scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance or higher (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Must have a DoD 8140 CompTIA Security+ certification


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code and configuration management tools.
  • Awareness of security best practices in DevOps and software delivery.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and basic orchestration concepts.
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (SAP)/SCI.


Primary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
