About the role

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Payroll Officer to support Orica Canada inc. This position will take ownership of the payroll process for Orica employees across Canada, helping ensure every payroll cycle is accurate, timely, and compliant with Orica requirements and applicable legislation. In this key role, you will support Payroll Officers, provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders, and serve as an escalation point for payroll system issues and legislative inquiries.

This is a new position.

What you will be doing

  • Take ownership of payroll data and coordinate with external service providers to support accurate and efficient payroll delivery.
  • Administer offline payroll data and processes, ensuring information is complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
  • Provide responsive, customer-focused support while building trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Interpret payroll legislation and provide clear, practical, and relevant guidance to internal clients.
  • Participate in payroll and business improvement projects as required.
  • Provide guidance on leave management and help ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Manage payroll-related service requests and act as an escalation point for complex inquiries.
  • Administer payroll-related benefits, as required.
  • Support year-end payroll processes and reporting, as required.
  • Prepare accurate regular and ad hoc payroll reports to support business needs.
  • Support Payroll Officers in interpreting legislation and providing accurate, relevant guidance.
  • Manage payments for employees on international assignments.
  • Apply subject matter expertise in complex agreements and legislation to resolve payroll matters effectively.
  • Partner with the Regional Payroll Lead to manage and monitor payroll system change requests.

  • Dayforce.
  • ServiceNow ticketing system.
  • Excel and Outlook 365.


What you will bring

  • More than 5 years of payroll processing experience in Canada.
  • Familiarity with collective agreements and unions is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Dayforce payroll system.
  • Understanding of company HR and payroll policies, procedures, and agreements, as well as applicable country or regional legislation.
  • Strong foundational payroll knowledge applicable to the country or region being administered.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Bilingual in English and French, to support employees across all Canadian provinces - MANDATORY


Role dimensions

  • This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week onsite at an Orica office.
  • The position may be based in Boisbriand, QC; Sudbury, ON; Calgary, AB; or Maple Ridge, BC.
  • The regular schedule is Monday to Friday during daytime hours.

Salary to be determined by the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Compensation Range
  • Between $75,000 and $95,000 / year
  • Eligible for annual short-term incentive plan
