Full Job Description

This Sr. National Account Manager is a fully remote position supporting our Life and LTC clients predominately in the Eastern and Central part of the country. Living in either the EST or CST time zone is strongly preferred. This role will require approximately 50% travel.

As a National Account Manager, you'll build and cultivate relationships with leaders and associates at all levels across the spectrum at designated focus firms. You will collaborate with key Nationwide Financial (NF) leaders and develop strategic plans and tactical initiatives that advance Nationwide Financial as the partner of choice in select firms. We'll count on you to expand our relationships by uncovering opportunities for growth, creating the appropriate connections with client firms, gaining specific insights and access for NF sales teams and working to ensure the team is focused on the highest priority opportunities.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops a deep understanding of each clients’ needs, works to develop a strategy to meet those needs and work with key internal leaders to drive initiatives that deliver.

  • Owns the account planning process for assigned focus firms and helps guide the organization in optimizing results.

  • Drives NF sales by winning new profitable business, adding products on platforms and creating opportunities to partner with NF sales leaders to develop and drive critical initiatives that support growth and access to the right advisors.

  • Builds and maintains the appropriate relationships and communication protocols required for NF Leaders, colleagues and wholesalers to feel engaged, informed and on-board with focus firm strategic plans.

  • Finds appropriate opportunities to build brand and access wins for the NF team. Consistently adjusts and communicates broadly around priorities to ensure resources are used efficiently. 

  • Conducts training on procedures, processes and services provided by the business unit.

  • Attends national, regional or local conferences as needed to promote relationships with assigned firms.

  • Mentors/coaches the Relationship Consultant(s) assigned to the firm to ensure client needs are met or exceeded.

  • Shares firm intelligence with internal business partners and documents in Salesforce and other repositories as necessary.

May performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Associate Vice President and does not have direct reports. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:


Education: Undergraduate degree in sales, marketing or related field preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: NASD Series 6, 63, and state life, accident, and health licenses required. Series 26 licensing, and financial services designations (i.e., CFP, ChFC, CRC and CRA) preferred, dependent on business unit. Associates must acquire the required federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit. Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails to acquire required licenses/registrations within the designated time period, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.

Experience: Eight to 10 years of experience in sales, sales management, markets or relationship management in the insurance or financial services fields. Experience with wholesale distribution of financial services products preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Must have comprehensive knowledge of products, services and processes of business unit. Must have strong social skills, sophisticated relationship development and organizational navigation skills. Excellent verbal presentation, written communication skills and facilitation skills are necessary for interacting with the most senior levels of large financial institutions and internal partners. Ability to lead large and complex projects and influence without authority to achieve results. Highly adept at creative problem-solving, having difficult conversations and negotiating to find the best alternative to address the client and NF’s needs.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal sales office environment. Significant travel may be required based on business unit requirements. Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record in accordance with Nationwide standards.
