Novi, Michigan - This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.

Ideal Candidate
Must possess a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
Must have 10+ years of experience in Automotive Engineering with strong expertise in Onboard Diagnostics (OBD), System Engineering, Diagnostics Architecture, and Software Integration.
Must have leadership or technical management experience leading OBD, Diagnostics, Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering teams.
Must have proven experience defining and delivering production OBD systems and diagnostic architectures for BEV and/or Hybrid/EREV vehicle programs.
Must have deep expertise in OBDII regulations, UDS diagnostics, diagnostic communication architectures, monitor strategies, readiness logic, MIL behavior, and diagnostic compliance requirements.
Must have experience working within Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architectures, including centralized compute, domain controllers, diagnostic gateways, and cross-domain software integration.
Must have hands-on experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.
Must have experience with automotive development and validation tools including MATLAB/Simulink, CANoe, CANape, and ETAS INCA.
Must have demonstrated success building, mentoring, and leading high-performing engineering teams.

The Sr Manager - OBD Core Functions & Requirements will lead Scout Motors' OBD Systems & Diagnostics organization and own the overall diagnostic strategy, architecture, requirements, integration, and validation framework for next-generation Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platforms.
This leader will be responsible for establishing scalable OBD concepts, defining system architectures, managing cross-functional execution, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing engineering teams that support Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) platforms.
The role requires strong technical leadership, systems thinking, organizational influence, and the ability to drive execution across software, systems engineering, controls, validation, safety, cybersecurity, calibration, and aftersales organizations.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and grow the OBD Systems & Diagnostics organization, including system engineers, requirements engineers, integration engineers, and diagnostic specialists.
• Define and own Scout's overall OBD strategy and diagnostic architecture across BEV and EREV platforms.
• Establish scalable diagnostic concepts including monitor strategies, readiness behavior, MIL logic, UDS diagnostics, and service tool integration.
• Drive creation, alignment, and traceability of OBD requirements across multiple vehicle domains.
• Coordinate systems engineering, software development, controls, calibration, validation, safety, cybersecurity, and aftersales teams.
• Define development roadmaps, milestones, and deliverables supporting prototype, validation, and production releases.
• Ensure compliance with OBDII regulations, diagnostic standards, and future OTA-enabled software architectures.
• Oversee integration of OBD functionality within SDV architectures including central compute, domain controllers, diagnostic gateways, and communication networks.
• Lead technical decision-making related to diagnostic architecture, implementation strategies, and system trade-offs.
• Establish best practices for requirements engineering, system modeling, validation planning, and defect management.
• Monitor diagnostic KPIs including diagnostic coverage, readiness performance, defect quality, and release stability.
• Lead issue escalation management, root cause analysis, and cross-functional resolution efforts.
• Mentor, coach, and develop engineering team members.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with executive leadership and architecture teams to ensure long-term scalability and future readiness of Scout's diagnostic systems.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
• 10+ years of Automotive Engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in OBD Systems, Diagnostics Architecture, System Engineering, and Software Integration.
• Experience leading engineering teams and cross-functional technical organizations.
• Experience delivering production OBD systems for BEV, Hybrid, PHEV, or EREV vehicle programs.
• Deep understanding of OBDII regulations, UDS diagnostics, monitor strategies, readiness behavior, MIL logic, and diagnostic communication architectures.
• Experience working within Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) environments.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama, DOORS, or Polarion.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, CANoe, CANape, ETAS INCA, and related automotive development tools.
• Strong stakeholder management, organizational leadership, and technical decision-making capabilities.
