Job DescriptionYour Role The Sr. Manager, Engineering oversees a team responsible for designing and delivering complex services, integrations, cloud-native applications, and enterprise technology capabilities. This leader ensures teams have the strategy, structure, talent, standards, and execution discipline needed to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
Sr. Managers are expected to be strong people and execution leaders with enough technical depth to guide major decisions, resolve complex risks, improve engineering practices, and support modernization efforts. This role partners across Product, Architecture, Security, Platform, Infrastructure, business, vendor, and senior leadership teams to align priorities, remove obstacles, and drive outcomes that support Stellarus' mission and evolving technology strategy.
ResponsibilitiesYour WorkIn this role, you will:
- Lead an engineering team responsible for delivering secure, scalable, reliable technology solutions.
- Define and execute engineering roadmaps, delivery priorities, operational plans, and team objectives aligned to business, product, platform, and enterprise goals.
- Establish and improve operating models, governance, engineering standards, KPIs, dashboards, SLAs/SLOs, and executive-level reporting to show delivery health, platform maturity, operational performance, and business value.
- Build, grow, and sustain high-performing engineering organizations through hiring, workforce planning, coaching, performance management, leadership development, and succession planning.
- Guide senior technical talent in resolving complex delivery, architecture, reliability, security, scalability, integration, and operational issues.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Platform, Infrastructure, business, and vendor stakeholders to align priorities, manage dependencies, and drive cross-functional execution.
- Drive modernization, technical debt reduction, reliability improvements, automation, AI adoption, developer productivity, and practical transformation across assigned teams or technology areas.
- Ensure engineering teams apply consistent practices for secure development, CI/CD, cloud-native architecture, observability, operational reliability, testability, maintainability, and scalable system design.
- Own delivery status and organizational performance across multiple workstreams, ensuring transparency, accountability, risk visibility, and timely communication to stakeholders.
- Manage budgets, resource plans, vendor relationships, licensing, contracts, investment plans, and technology roadmaps where applicable.
- Influence strategic decisions and advise leaders on delivery risks, technical tradeoffs, operational needs, resource constraints, and opportunities to improve scalability, quality, and business impact.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, engineering excellence, pragmatic decision-making, innovation, continuous learning, and measurable improvement.
QualificationsYour Knowledge and Experience- Bachelor's degree or High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- 8 years of progressive technology experience in software engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, enterprise engineering, engineering management, technical delivery, or related disciplines.
- 4 years of prior people management experience with direct responsibility for supervising, coaching, and evaluating technical teams.
- Experience leading multiple teams, platforms, products, or technology domains with accountability for delivery, people leadership, operational outcomes, and stakeholder management.
- Strong knowledge of modern software engineering, platform engineering, cloud architecture, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, automation, AI enablement, APIs, secure development, and technology lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated ability to shape engineering practices, improve consistency across teams, and drive adoption of CI/CD, observability, secure development, operational reliability, and scalable architecture practices.
- Experience modernizing enterprise platforms or applications, reducing technical debt, improving operational resilience, and maintaining secure, supportable technologies.
- Ability to manage multiple complex workstreams, prioritize across competing demands, and interact effectively with all levels of management.
- Experience with budget management, vendor management, contracts, investment planning, resource planning, and technology roadmaps preferred.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts, tradeoffs, risks, and investment needs for senior and cross-functional audiences.
- Experience supporting large-scale technology delivery in complex, regulated, healthcare, cloud-native, or platform-based environments preferred.
HybridThis role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week.
Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.
