We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Loss Control Specialist. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to evaluate complex and high-severity risks while providing advanced technical guidance to underwriting and leadership. You'll partner closely with underwriting and distribution to support thoughtful risk selection, pre-bind evaluations, and strategic growth opportunities within an emerging territory. This position also offers the opportunity to influence the development of a new and evolving book of business while strengthening enterprise consistency through mentoring, standards development, and collaboration across regions.
Job responsibilities:- Acts as an enterprise-level risk and safety authority, providing the highest level of technical Loss Control expertise to underwriting, producers, and policyholders.
- Partners with underwriting, business development, and distribution to support new business production, including participation in agency visits and consultative pre-bind risk evaluations for targeted opportunities.
- Influences risk selection, pricing, and underwriting strategy by providing timely, field-informed insight on prospective and renewal accounts.
- Allocates time across growth support and portfolio service activities based on territory maturity, underwriting priorities, and risk/exposure characteristics.
- Performs the most complex and technically challenging risk evaluations, exercising mastery-level expertise and judgment to assess physical exposures alongside leadership effectiveness, supervisory practices, learning systems, and claims management maturity.
- Interprets portfolio-level assessment findings to identify risk patterns, drivers, and trajectories that inform enterprise underwriting judgment and Loss Control strategy.
- Translates assessment insights into prioritized service strategies, ensuring Loss Control resources are focused on the highest-impact risk areas.
- Collaborates closely with underwriting on complex account decisions, contributing to enterprise profitability, retention, and risk-selection outcomes.
- Serves as an enterprise-recognized subject-matter expert, advising underwriting leadership, Loss Control leadership, and cross-functional partners on emerging risks, industry trends, and complex account strategies.
- Represents the Loss Control function in agency and policyholder engagements, reinforcing technical expertise and organizational credibility.
- Develops technical resources, training materials, and internal or external communications that support Loss Control practices and industry knowledge.
- Provides leadership through influence by driving cross-regional alignment in risk-evaluation methodology, interpretation standards, and technical quality.
- Establishes and reinforces consistent application of structured risk-evaluation standards across regions, ensuring findings are evidence-based, auditable, and comparable enterprise-wide.
- Leads the development of technical standards, practice guidelines, tools, templates, and advanced training programs that build department-wide and enterprise-level Loss Control capability.
- Leads or significantly contributes to enterprise-wide initiatives, SME committees, and cross-functional projects that advance technical standards, consistency, and overall, Loss Control effectiveness.
- Provides strategic mentoring and technical coaching to Specialists, Senior Consultants, and Consultants, with measurable impact on professional judgment, capability development, and performance outcomes.
- Conducts advanced industrial hygiene evaluations and interprets complex data to inform enterprise-level risk management strategies.
Qualifications/Competencies:- Education: BS/BA college degree in risk management or safety and health preferred; or equivalent full-time work experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum of 10 years of Loss Control experience within an insurance carrier, or a blended equivalent of 5 years of insurance carrier experience alongside at least 5 years of senior-level corporate safety industry experience.
- Experience Qualifiers: Must be a recognized enterprise-level technical authority with a sustained history of partnering closely with underwriting leadership on high-severity, complex account strategies. Requires a proven track record of leading cross-regional or enterprise-wide initiatives, developing organizational technical standards, delivering strategic mentoring with measurable peer performance impacts, and producing market-facing thought-leadership content.
- Demonstrated ability to operate with an entrepreneurial, builder-oriented mindset in an emerging territory, including effectively navigating ambiguity, establishing new relationships, and shaping early-stage service and engagement strategies aligned to underwriting and growth objectives.
- Mastery-level technical expertise across complex and high-severity industrial exposures, with the ability to evaluate risk and provide guidance on challenging or unusual operations.
- Advanced skill in interpreting portfolio-level assessment data, identifying patterns, and applying findings to inform underwriting and Loss Control strategy.
- Strong organizational and project management capability to support cross-regional alignment initiatives, define technical standards, and contribute to practice development.
- Advanced communication and consulting skills to represent the function in
- Mastery-level communication, thought leadership, and influential presence to represent loss control in complex discussions, deliver training, and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of commercial insurance.
- Intermediate to senior level PC skills to effectively utilize the various applications within Microsoft Office Suite.
- Master communication skills both in written and verbal form to effectively listen; turn resistance into cooperation; receive criticism in a professional manner; to properly compose business correspondence, service plans and facilitate presentations to CopperPoint's agency partners and policyholder's executives and managers.
- Strongly preferred experience in construction-focused risks across both Workers' Compensation and Property & Casualty lines. - Preference for candidates with multi-line Loss Control experience and demonstrated involvement in pre-bind risk evaluation, new business development support, or agency-facing activities.
