Job Description

The purpose of this role is to operate independently to provide financial and commercial oversight to an increased complexity portfolio of remote operating sites governed by unique commercial agreements and varying complex customers. This includes month-end close support, profit and loss analysis, balance sheet approval, forecast and budget review, and completing ad hoc financial analysis to control expenses and aid in the improvement of financial performance. This position has daily interaction with operational sites and interacts with the Senior Operators, Accounting, Procurement, Business Development and Engineering departments.

Financial Oversight
  • Review and approve remote sites month-end close
  • Facilitate the development of monthly forecasts and annual budgets for assigned sites; approve site submissions and provide feedback
  • Analyze the financial performance of assigned sites and provide explanation of significant variances in performance against budget and forecast.
  • Train and develop of site managers in sound commercial and financial processes
  • Review sites working capital position with a focus on outstanding accounts receivable and help resolve collection issues and monitor customer financial condition
  • Develop and direct implementation of site targets in support of the business unit annual budget
  • Complete the monthly management reporting to include the trading document, corporate consolidation reporting, new business reporting, corporate commentary, etc.
  • Validate accounting controls and policies are applied appropriately
  • Possess solid risk assessment techniques and understandings of Revenue streams and key controls to develop a control framework to prevent leakage
  • Assist operations in developing tools for accurate billing of commercial components. Leverage tools to identify potential billing and revenue leakage issues
  • Certify balance sheet reconciliations
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection process of OBAs at the site


Commercial Support
  • Provide financial support and analysis to Business Development and Operations teams in the development of complex commercial proposals
  • Develop and present competitive pricing scenarios to the pursuit team considering capital investment and financial hurdles
  • Prepare and manage approval process for all contract renewals and new business awards
  • Actively influence ongoing decisions regarding site financial and commercial risks
  • Review and approve capital expenditures for new business including financing method (buy vs. lease)
  • Liaison with Purchasing, Real Estate, Contract Administration and Operating teams to ensure that commercial and financial risks and exposures are highlighted
  • Apply control experience across portfolio of business to predict, avoid and protect current earnings, future forecasts, and growth strategies
  • Address billing and revenue complex issues commercially
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and drive implementation, specific to functional strategy
  • Actively participate in developing strategy details and resource allocation to support implementation by partnering with executive teams; establish priorities, strategic growth direction and cost initiatives

Operational Support
  • Drive site start-ups for billing, labor tracking, capex approval, start-up spend and operational site budgets
  • Develop and monitor profit improvement plans for underperforming sites
  • Identify opportunities for improvement of site financial performance and leverage over portfolio


People Management
  • Provide financial direction to dotted-line reports (General Managers) and direct reports (analysts, if any) or indirect reports (OBAs) to effectively oversee a portfolio of remote sites governed by unique commercial agreements
  • Build and maintain a positive relationship with your internal and external team
  • Serve as an interface between site operations and other functional teams to ensure effective operational and commercial support
  • Exchange a responsibility with a colleague to learn a new skill/process and serve as a peer coach to others
  • Supervision/Oversight of a cross functional team or project, intern or seasonal associate, or other similar type of direct reporting relationship


Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, economics, finance or accounting or equivalent 4 years work experience, required
  • 5+ years experience within the finance or accounting industry, required
  • 5+ years of Commercial Finance experience, required
  • Logistics industry experience, required
  • Public accounting experience, preferred
  • Advanced accounting knowledge: P&L and balance sheet
