THE ROLEAMD is transforming how firmware is developed across our CPU, GPU, and system management platforms. For decades, firmware development has relied on hand-written code, manually developed tests, and debug tooling that often trails the silicon it supports. We are reimagining this model through an AI-native approach where code generation, verification, testing, and debug enablement are increasingly machine-driven, allowing engineers to focus on architecture, correctness, and the most complex bring-up challenges.
As an AI Firmware Architect, you will define and drive this transformation. This role is not focused on helping engineers write firmware faster. It is focused on fundamentally changing how firmware organizations operate by redefining workflows, toolchains, verification methodologies, and engineering expectations. You will establish the strategy and technical foundation for AI-native firmware development and prove it through successful deployment on real product programs.
THE PERSONThe ideal candidate is a visionary systems architect with a proven track record of building large-scale platforms from inception to production. You possess deep technical expertise spanning firmware, systems software, cloud-scale infrastructure, and AI-driven development methodologies. You are equally comfortable defining long-term architectural strategy and driving execution across large, cross-functional engineering organizations.
You have successfully introduced transformational technology, architectures, or methodologies and have demonstrated the ability to influence and align broad engineering teams without direct organizational authority.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Define and champion AMD's AI-native firmware development strategy across CPU, GPU, and system management platforms.
- Establish architectural direction for the generation, verification, and maintenance of firmware code, test suites, and debug enablement tools.
- Design and implement scalable generation and verification pipelines, including specification frameworks, evaluation methodologies, validation environments, and quality guardrails.
- Drive technical alignment across firmware, silicon design, platform software, systems management, infrastructure, and tooling organizations.
- Lead organizational transformation by influencing engineering practices and workflows across hundreds of engineers.
- Make critical architectural decisions regarding firmware stack design, system management interfaces, and the division of responsibility between generated and human-authored components.
- Define reliability, security, safety, and quality standards for AI-generated firmware deployed on production silicon.
- Partner with software, hardware, and AI teams to establish best-in-class development and validation methodologies for future AMD platforms.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE- Experience building and scaling complex production systems from concept to widespread deployment.
- Founding Engineer, Founding Architect, or comparable experience creating a product, platform, or technology that successfully scaled to production.
- Deep expertise in firmware, embedded systems, systems software, operating systems, or platform architecture.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale software development environments.
- Experience designing and operating systems where reliability, debuggability, and operational excellence are critical requirements.
- Demonstrated success driving adoption of new architectures, methodologies, development frameworks, or engineering toolchains across large engineering organizations.
- Practical experience with AI and large language model (LLM) technologies for code generation, software development, testing, or validation workflows.
- Strong understanding of evaluation frameworks, verification methodologies, benchmarking, and quality assurance for AI-generated software artifacts.
- Experience in firmware bring-up, silicon validation, BMC/system management, platform initialization, boot systems, or related low-level platform technologies is highly desirable.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) preferred.
