Sr. EHS Manager

Position Overview

Shaw Industries is searching for a Sr. EHS Manager to support and continually improve Plant 78's operations regarding loss prevention, safety and environmental initiatives to reduce injuries, incidents and company liability. They also ensure both facilities are compliant with applicable environmental, safety and health laws and regulations. This role is full time onsite in Aiken, SC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, implement, and maintain the Shaw SAFE System and Environmental Handbook. Develop a thorough understanding of both.
  • Develop, coach and mentor EHS Teams Plant 78.
  • Work closely with HR and Plant Nursing where applicable on case management for Workers Compensation Claims.
  • Research and interpret government regulations to ensure corporate programs and procedures stay in compliance with Local, State and Federal requirements.
  • Provide final review and approval for all SAFE and Environmental Handbook Program revisions.
  • Prepare required EHS permit applications for Federal, State and Local compliance.
  • Communicate with State and Federal agencies in response to inquiries, complaints, permit applications, and/or site inspections. Foster and develop relationships.
  • Serve as an EH&S consultant to plant and operations related to government regulations, property conservation, loss control, risk mitigation, and best business practices.
  • Develop the agendas, plan, organize EH&S workshops and training classes of varying sizes with a target audience ranging from plant hourly to senior management.
  • Develop and maintain the EHS Risk Based Audit criteria (FMEA). Publish list of corporate audits during fourth quarter each year.
  • Organize, lead, and conduct comprehensive EH&S audits at plant and prepare detailed reports with audit results. Report any concerns to appropriate facility and divisional resources.
  • Participate in the Raw Material Substitution Request (RMSR) and New Chemical Review Process. Ensure that facility SDS's are updated in the system.
  • Assess the necessity for Industrial Hygiene testing at plant as needed to determine potential employee exposures.
  • Manage and track wastes associated with facility operations. Ensure wastes are classified per RCRA and other solid wastes requirements. Monitor generation rates and generator status.
  • Investigate and appropriately respond to employee complaints.
  • Assign, lead and/or participate in incident investigations.
  • Lead the Security team, investigate and respond to all security incidents.
  • Provide appropriate site response to serious accidents, chemical spills, bomb threats, and other incidents or emergencies.
  • Special Assignments
  • Work on special teams or projects that require EHS expertise and involvement
  • Presents information to leadership as requested
  • Participate in environmental, safety and ergonomic evaluations of all new equipment installations and process changes.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with insurance companies who provide coverage for Shaw.
  • Develop and compile Site Contingency Plans; coordinate with IT Security.
  • Collaborate with, and provide EH&S expertise to other corporate functions. (Corporate Engineering, Corporate Energy, CIMs, Legal, etc.)
  • Assist company with sourcing EH&S products and services.
  • Review EH&S training materials and resources for potential purchase by the company.
  • Participate in appropriate Quality Training, soft skills, and/or other company related classes.
  • Participate in standard Risk Management trainings and seminars
  • Must abide by Corporate Safety rules and regulations and follow all safety guidelines.
  • Abide by Confidentiality Agreement and Standards of Ethical Conduct Agreement.
  • Deal with confidential assignments and information.
  • Maintain a partnership with Columbia, SC and Thomson, GA facilities to aid one another as needed.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
  • Four-year degree in a related field.
  • 3 years of experience as an EHS manager or equivalent.
