In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving cybersecurity governance, resilience, and risk transformation across Capital One. As the Senior Director, Technology Controls, you will drive the overarching strategy, execution, and modernization of our enterprise technology risk and compliance landscape. You will lead the Tech Controls organization across core operational towers—spanning product management for enterprise control platforms, assurance operations, data analytics, control performance execution, and executive reporting. In this role, you will lead the strategic transformation to shift the organization from traditional, point-in-time compliance to proactive, continuous, and automated controls monitoring. You will serve as a key visionary and execution leader in leveraging agentic AI to streamline audit, attestation, and certification workflows while advancing our enterprise technology controls health. Summary: 3 Applies expertise on cyber best practices to assess current state, identify gaps, and assess cyber risk, threats, and business impact 3 Defines mitigation strategies, prioritizes and escalates recommendations 3 Participates in design and implementation of cyber control programs 3 Cybersecurity area-specific SME [knowledge of risk frameworks, information security risk assessments, information risk controls, regulatory and internal governance], data analysis [metrics and reporting], and customer engagement Responsibilities: 3 Possesses an understanding of technology systems at an aggregate level, including networks, applications, cloud computing, and data 3 Maintains a broad understanding of relevant operating systems and their respective vulnerabilities in order to quickly identify the severity of potential issues [doesn't just know how the tools and reports work, but also how to recognize risk] 3 Demonstrates a broad understanding of major categories of cyber threats, how those threats can occur in our environment, and the measures required to safeguard the enterprise 3 Leverages reporting and tools [doesn't build them] to perform analysis on different types of projects, efforts, or datasets and uses data to inform policies and drive change 3 Understands associated reporting metrics and is able to inform on cyber risk 3 May use code to perform and/or automate analysis and repeatable tasks, but not a baseline requirement for the role 3 Leverages tools [e.g. Excel/Google Sheets] to analyze data and create charts to support cyber risk management efforts 3 Quickly and accurately analyzes data, assesses risk, and prioritizes published vulnerabilities and potential risks to differentiate critical, high-risk, and low-risk issues, and escalates as appropriate 3 Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting cybersecurity policies or programs; recommends sound, practical solutions to complex issues 3 Makes recommendations regarding changes to policies, procedures, and control programs to mitigate evolving risks 3 Effectively self-challenges cyber control programs as part of first-line duties and escalates risks where appropriate 3 Demonstrates sound lifecycle program management to include documenting and communicating action plans, impediments and risks, and stakeholder engagement 3 Reports on vulnerability assessments to ensure proper functionality and alignment with Information Security Standards [able to understand and explain, but not required to resolve] 3 Advises Accountable Executives of cyber-related risk on a consistent basis via relevant risk forums and through existing processes such as exception and issue management 3 Keeps pace with the evolving cyber threat landscape to ensure ongoing relevance of cyber risk mitigation Basic Qualifications: 3 Bachelors Degree or military experience 3 At least 12 years of experience in technology (software delivery, distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, infrastructure as code), cybersecurity (identity and access management, application security, cloud security, data protection), technology auditing, systems risk management, technology risk assessments, resilience engineering (operational resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery, high availability), chaos engineering (fault injection, blast radius mitigation, automated security validation), site reliability engineering (SLAs or SLOs, observability, incident response), or a combination. McLean, VA: $269,600 - $307,700 for Sr. Director, Tech Risk & Analysis New York, NY: $294,100 - $335,700 for Sr. Director, Tech Risk & Analysis Richmond, VA: $245,100 - $279,800 for Sr. Director, Tech Risk & Analysis Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter. This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
