Description

About the role:

The Senior Director, Supply Chain - Systems & Sustainability is a strategic, highly visible senior leadership role that reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and works alongside peer leaders in Operations, Finance, IT, and Sustainability.

This leader owns the full Supply Chain function (procurement, demand planning, inventory, warehouse, logistics, and customer service) and carries direct accountability for two dimensions that increasingly define how Supply Chain performs: (1) Supply Chain Systems, leading our ERP implementation and its ongoing modernization, applying AI and automation to forecasting, planning, and procurement, and serving as the primary business partner to IT on supply chain technology needs; and (2) Supply Chain Sustainability, building the operational processes and supplier programs needed to meet an increasingly rigorous global sustainability landscape, including B Corp recertification under B Lab's new standards, Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) requirements, SEDEX/SMETA audits, and retailer-driven human rights due diligence programs.

We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable setting multi-year strategy, managing ERP implementation and governance, and rolling up their sleeves when needed. This is a role for a builder: someone energized by ambiguity, who treats cross-functional partnership as the job rather than a distraction from it, and who wants to leave a visible, lasting mark on how a growing, entrepreneurial company operates.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job, but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities for this job at any time for reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

Supply Chain Strategy & Operations (Core)
  • Own end-to-end supply chain performance across Purchasing, Demand Planning, Warehouse, Customer Service, and Logistics, setting strategy that ties directly to company growth and financial objectives.
  • Direct the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process, including sales tracking, production planning, inventory management, and vintage forecasting.
  • Translate calendar-year and multi-year forecasts into vintage and varietal-level grape procurement needs ahead of each harvest.
  • Lead sourcing, vendor selection, and contract negotiation for raw materials, packaging, and services, balancing cost, quality, and delivery commitments with increasing scrutiny on supplier sustainability performance.
  • Facilitate new product development timelines across departments to ensure timely, well-coordinated launches.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of managers, analysts, and specialists; develop bench strength for succession.

Supply Chain Systems Leadership: ERP & Enterprise Modernization
  • Serve as primary contact for the company's recent ERP implementation and ongoing modernization roadmap.
  • Lead post-implementation governance: data integrity, user adoption, release management, and continuous improvement cycles.
  • Define supply chain, procurement, and inventory data architecture requirements and ensure they support downstream reporting, forecasting, and sustainability/traceability needs.
  • Build the business case, timeline, and change management plan for any systems investments, and report progress to the COO.
  • Evaluate and integrate complementary planning, procurement, and analytics platforms (e.g., APS, TMS, supplier portals) around the ERP core.

Supply Chain Systems Leadership: AI, Automation & Digital Innovation
  • Identify and lead the deployment of AI and machine learning applications across demand forecasting, production planning, procurement, and inventory optimization.
  • Champion supply chain automation initiatives that reduce manual effort and improve decision speed.
  • Bring an enterprise-wide lens to automation opportunities, partnering beyond supply chain to identify where AI can improve cross-functional workflows tied to planning, sustainability reporting, and finance.
  • Stay current on emerging AI/automation tools relevant to food, beverage, and agricultural supply chains, and bring a point of view on where the company should invest next.

Supply Chain Systems Leadership: IT / Information Systems Partnership
  • Serve as the primary business partner to IT/Information Systems on all supply chain software needs, translating operational requirements into technical specifications and prioritization.
  • Co-own the supply chain technology roadmap with IT, ensuring systems decisions are made jointly rather than in silos.
  • Partner with IT on data governance, systems security, and integration standards as they relate to supply chain and supplier-facing platforms.

Supply Chain Sustainability & Ethical Sourcing
  • Partner cross-functionally on sustainability and quality (ISO) initiatives to build and own the operational processes needed to meet certification and recertification requirements, including:
  • B Corp recertification under B Lab's new standards framework, including the seven mandatory Impact Topics, Foundation Requirements, and phased Year 0/Year 3/Year 5 obligations
  • Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) requirements across applicable sourcing and supply chains
  • SEDEX membership and SMETA audit readiness across our supplier base
  • International retailer human rights due diligence (HRDD) requirements, including Marks & Spencer's supplier program and comparable frameworks
  • Build supplier-facing programs (codes of conduct, audit cadences, corrective action tracking) that make ethical sourcing and traceability a standard part of how Supply Chain operates, not a parallel compliance exercise.
  • Ensure ERP and supply chain data structures capture what's needed for third-party ESG verification and public impact reporting.
  • Represent Supply Chain in materiality assessments and sustainability strategy discussions led by executive leadership.

Finance & Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Co-owns demand planning and S&OP cycles with Finance to align inventory investment with revenue forecasts.
  • Partners on annual budgeting for COGS, freight, warehousing, and inventory carrying costs.
  • Leads make-vs-buy and vendor negotiations analysis with Finance to make the business case.
  • Partners on Capital Expenditures requests (equipment/facility/automation) including ROI/payback modeling.
  • Provide supply chain input into annual budgeting, capital planning, and margin analysis.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across Winemaking, Operations / Production, Finance, Sales, IT, HR, and Sustainability.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making across the organization, using current and emerging technology to improve visibility and speed of decisions as the company grows.

Team Leadership & Talent Development
  • Mentor and develop direct reports, delegating appropriately while remaining connected to day-to-day execution.
  • Build a team structure that can scale with the company's growth and the expanding scope of this function (ESG, systems, and analytics capabilities).

QUALIFICATIONS:

To fulfill this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field; MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive supply chain, operations, or procurement leadership experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role with direct P&L, budget, or departmental accountability.
  • Demonstrated ERP leadership experience, including at least one full-cycle implementation (requirements, selection, or deployment) and multi-year post-implementation management/governance. This is a hard requirement, not a preference.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI, machine learning, or advanced automation tools to supply chain functions (forecasting, planning, procurement, or inventory), with the ability to speak credibly to both business and technical audiences.
  • Proven experience partnering with IT/Information Systems as a business owner of technology initiatives, not solely as a requester of support.
  • Direct experience with sustainability/ESG compliance frameworks such as B Corp, SEDEX/SMETA, HRDD programs, or comparable ethical sourcing/certification standards. Food, beverage, or agricultural industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Manufacturing and warehousing environment experience required; wine, beverage, or agricultural production experience strongly preferred, though not required for the right candidate.
  • Track record of building or scaling a team and function through a period of significant organizational or technological change.

Required Skills and Attributes:
  • Strategic partner to the COO and peer leaders in Finance, IT, Operations, and Sustainability, with senior leadership presence to influence without direct authority across functions and with external partners (auditors, certifying bodies, retail customers, ERP vendors).
  • Comfortable leading through ambiguity, balancing multi-year strategic thinking (ERP roadmaps, certification cycles) with the operational urgency of a harvest-driven business, and applying sound judgment across diverse stakeholders from vineyard and cellar teams to retail customer auditors.
  • Comprehensive analytical, strategic, and tactical capability; able to build the vision and execute against it personally, balancing entrepreneurial speed with growing governance maturity.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel/Power Pivot/DAX/ Power BI and working knowledge of ERP and database management; ability to evaluate and speak to system architecture decisions.
  • Executive-level verbal, written, and presentation skills, comfortable presenting to the COO and Board-level audiences.
  • Strong project management discipline, particularly across multi-workstream initiatives (ERP + ESG + automation running concurrently).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable operating in a fast-paced, still-forming structure where this leader will help define the playbook, not just follow one.
  • Genuine thought leadership: someone who brings outside perspective on where supply chain, ESG, and digital transformation are heading, not just internal execution.

Preferred / Nice to Have
  • Relevant procurement or supply chain certifications (CPPO, CPPM, CPSM, APICS/CSCP).
  • Project management certification (PMP) or equivalent.
  • Lean manufacturing / Six Sigma training.
  • Prior experience specifically with Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC), B Corp certification cycles, or retailer HRDD audit programs (e.g., M&S, Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit).
