Purpose of the PositionWe are seeking an exceptional Senior Director of Electrical Engineering to lead the electrical engineering department as we advance transformative bioelectronic, implantable medical device platforms. As a senior leader, you will work closely with the executive leadership team, shaping both near-term execution and long-term technology strategy. You will be instrumental in building and evolving the organization, mentoring future leaders, and fostering a hands-on, high-performance engineering culture aligned to our non-profit mission: improving the[JR1] lives of patients worldwide.
This role blends hands-on technical leadership with enterprise-level strategy, requiring someone who can shift from circuit-level detail to boardroom-level decision-making with ease.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership- Define and own the electrical engineering strategy for next-generation active implantable medical device platforms
- Drive the design, development, and testing of complex bioelectronic systems comprised of PCB design, stimulation, power management, wireless communication, and sensing technologies
- Serve as a thought leader in cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, software, and biomedical engineering teams, with the goal of reviewing designs, guiding tradeoff decisions, and solving critical problems.
- Drive innovation in miniaturization, communication, and power control of implantable systems
- Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, ISO standards, and quality management systems
Team Leadership & Development- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers across multiple product development activities
- Balance strategic oversight with real-time support and mentorship, especially on high-risk or high-impact technical challenges
- Encourage a culture of ownership, intellectual curiosity, and continuous learning
- Prioritize team member development and career advancement
- Establish clear technical vision while empowering team members to contribute their expertise
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide career guidance, and support continuing education initiatives
Strategic & Operational Management- Work with R&D leadership to define technical roadmaps aligned with business objectives
- Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, and Manufacturing teams throughout product lifecycle
- Manage engineering budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologies
- Serve as a key engineering voice at the executive table, partnering closely with the C-Suite on technology strategy, organizational growth, and long-term platform vision
- Translate mission-driven objectives into clear electrical engineering roadmaps that balance innovation, quality, risk, and speed
Experience and Professional QualificationsEducation & Experience:- Master's Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering preferred
- Minimum 15 years of progressive electrical engineering experience in medical device development or similar technological, regulated environments
- Minimum 7+ years of direct people management experience with demonstrated leadership success
- Demonstrated success delivering complex products from concept-to-completion with on-time product development cycles
Technical Expertise- Deep understanding of analog and digital circuit design, power management, and RF/Wireless technologies
- Proficiency in EMC/EMI design considerations
- Knowledge of medical device regulations (such as FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 14708, ISO 13485, IEC 60601)
- Familiarity with design controls, risk management (ISO 14971), and verification/validation processes
Leadership Competencies- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences in a clear and concise manner
- Proven ability to build high-performing teams and foster a collaborative culture
- Contribute towards and inspire the team to create novel therapy solutions and perform Intellectual Property filing

- Experience and passion for mentoring and developing early-career engineers
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with neurostimulation devices, cardiac implants, and/or drug delivery systems
- Background in circuit design & simulation, PCB assembly, signal processing, embedded software control, advanced control systems
- Experience with US and International regulatory requirements
