Sr. Director, Data Platform (Houston, TX Preferred OR United States - Remote)United States - Remote
Senior Director, Data Platform Location: Houston, Texas or United States - Remote Model of Work: Hybrid if located in Houston, TX or Remote with Travel if the work location is United States - Remote Are you excited by challenges? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced, international and dynamic environment? Then now is the time to join Quorum Software, a rapidly growing company and industry leader in oil & gas transformation.
Overview Quorum is hiring a Sr. Director, Data Platform to own the vision, execution, adoption, and operation of a cross-segment data platform. The Data Platform is Quorum's corporate technical strategy for data, with strong backing from senior product segment leaders. Segments build on shared components instead of each building its own and choosing its own technology. The Quorum Agentic Platform sits on top of the Data Platform and uses its data for AI agents and agentic workflows.
The platform gives product segment teams paved roads: self-service tools, templates, and contracts that make segment-specific data work fast and consistent. The Data Platform team itself owns the cross-product data products that no single segment can own and delivers them with the Data Platform product manager.
The Sr. Director reports to the VP, Platform and Architecture, and leads a team of 4 to 8 engineers that builds and runs the platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role and a thought leadership role in data: the Sr. Director shapes the architecture, works through production problems with the team, and sets the direction for data across all segments.
The role succeeds when product teams choose the platform because it helps them deliver faster.
Responsibilities Platform Ownership • Be the single accountable owner for the platform, including its operation.
• Own the Data Platform technical vision and architecture for both operational data and analytics.
• Own adoption. Success is measured by product teams' use of the platform, faster integration and delivery, platform reliability, and less duplicated work across segments.
• Advocate for the platform across the product segments: keep segment leaders informed of its capabilities and roadmap, and build strong working relationships with them.
• Make the Data Platform the fastest way for engineers to deliver value within their own segment.
• Own the delivery and operation of the cross-product data products that no single product line can own and build them on the platform.
Operational Data and Entity Resolution • Own entity resolution across Quorum products: one resolved record for each real-world entity, such as a well, a meter, or a business associate, with the source of every value recorded, and the survivorship rules that decide which system's value wins.
• Own the event backbone and the publishing contract that product teams use to integrate with the platform.
• Deliver resolved entities and their relationships to downstream consumers in near real time, including the Quorum Agentic Platform, with the reliability that product teams depend on.
Analytics Platform • Set the direction for ingestion, transformation, and curation of Quorum data in one governed analytics platform.
• Standardize data for direct use by customers and third parties.
• Own the strategy for how customers access their data, and build and run the APIs and other fit-for-purpose interfaces that deliver it, such as SQL endpoints and open data-sharing protocols.
• Enable Quorum teams to explore governed data and build analytical and machine learning solutions using shared platform capabilities.
• Own Quorum's external and internal reporting strategy: customer reporting through the analytics platform, and a shared reporting capability that Quorum applications can use instead of each building its own.
Data Governance • Own governance of cross-product datasets: ownership, cataloging, quality, and lineage.
• Give product segments self-service governance for their own datasets, built into the platform, so they meet the same standards without building their own controls.
• Own access control for operational and analytics data, including tenant isolation, so each customer sees only its own data.
• Own data loss prevention (DLP) and the regulatory implications of data, in partnership with Security, Legal, and data owners.
Leadership • Lead the Data Platform engineering team of 4 to 8 engineers directly: hire, develop, and manage the people who build and run the platform.
• Run the platform as a self-service product. Enable product teams to integrate with the platform easily, through contracts, templates, documentation, and automation.
• Turn the platform vision into concrete execution for the platform team.
• Partner with the Data Platform product manager. Product leads prioritization, and this role owns technical direction, execution, and operation.
External Representation • Represent the Data Platform in customer and partner conversations with senior technical leaders.
• Represent Quorum in data standards forums, such as OSDU.
• Manage technical relationships with data platform vendors and partners.
And other duties as assigned. Qualifications • Deep command of the full data platform: event streaming, entity resolution and master data management, ingestion, curation, and governance.
• Has personally built or operated a data platform in production, including entity resolution or master data management across multiple source systems.
• Experience architecting data as a product for external customers in a SaaS business, such as metered API access, bulk delivery of licensed datasets, or MCP servers that give customers' AI agents managed access to their data.
• Experience supplying data to internal AI agents and AI platforms.
• Strong grasp of data governance and the regulatory implications of data, including DLP.
• Proven delivery leadership: able to define a finish line and take a team to it.
• Able to connect technical platform capabilities to business value for senior audiences.
• A record of building strong working relationships with leaders of teams they did not manage.
• Willing to travel for customer meetings and industry forums.
Preferred Qualifications • Domain experience in energy / oil & gas is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with OSDU and industry data standards, and experience representing an organization in standards or partner ecosystems.
• Experience running a lakehouse on Databricks, ideally on Azure
