We are seeking a strategic and data-driven Senior Director of Customer Insights to generate the insights needed to drive commercial success within the Gartner Conferences business. In this role, you will work as a key partner to our Marketing team, directly supporting their initiatives and ensuring that customer and market insights inform every stage of our marketing strategy and execution. You will be responsible for designing and executing primary research initiatives, analyzing customer and market data, and delivering insights that shape marketing tactics and strategies to fuel business performance.

Key areas of focus include marketing-related research such as value proposition development, brand positioning, competitive assessments, pricing strategies, buyer segmentation/persona definition, messaging and creative testing, and non-buyer/win-back research. The ideal candidate will have direct, hands-on experience supporting marketing teams and initiatives, and possess the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for Marketing, Sales, and Strategy teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a strategic research partner to the Marketing team, collaborating closely with Marketing leaders to understand their needs and pain points. Translate these requirements into research briefs, data collection and analysis plans, and actionable insights that directly support marketing objectives.
  • Define, design, and execute global B2B primary market research initiatives using both qualitative and quantitative methods, with a strong focus on marketing-driven projects.
  • Develop and program surveys (using tools such as SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, or WebSurveyCreator), conduct in-depth interviews, facilitate focus groups, perform observational research, and run A/B experiments to inform marketing strategies.
  • Analyze internal, market, and competitive data using tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, Python, or similar platforms. Lead the development of repeatable analytics processes and dashboards to support ongoing marketing decision-making and performance tracking.
  • Deliver actionable recommendations to executive leadership, highlighting significant changes in buyer behavior and market trends that impact marketing effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the creation of the annual customer insights research agenda. Drive alignment across cross-functional teams (including Marketing, Sales, and Strategy) to ensure the success of our go-to-market plans.
  • Perform quality checks at all stages of research to ensure accuracy and reliability. Establish best practices for B2B data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Stay current with emerging AI technologies and integrate AI tools to optimize research workflows, ensuring responsible and ethical practices.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in Business, Social Sciences, Marketing Research, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of research experience, including at least 3 years focused on B2B market research across diverse geographies.
  • Direct experience supporting marketing teams and initiatives is required. Proven ability to partner with marketing stakeholders and deliver insights that inform marketing strategy and execution.
  • Strong background in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise with advanced analytics tools (R, Python, SPSS, SAS) and survey platforms.
  • Experience with text data mining, syndicated data, and social listening tools.
  • Proven ability to shape insights-driven marketing campaigns and event launches.
  • Experience working in highly matrixed organizations; agency or consulting experience is a plus.
  • Experience managing complex projects, driving cross-functional alignment, and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling presentations for senior audiences.
  • Intellectually curious, creative, highly collaborative, adaptable, and motivated by impact.
