Overview

Position: Sr. Data Engineer

 

Location: Remote – USA

(If living within 30 miles of Santa Ana, CA or Austin, TX will need to be able to work 4 days on-site)

Compensation: $140,000–$150,000 DOE

*Actual compensation may vary from posting based on geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level.

 

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Sr. Data Engineer to design, build, and enhance modern, scalable, and reliable data platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex data challenges, building enterprise-grade data solutions, and continuously improving engineering practices.

The ideal candidate is a curious and innovative problem solver who is passionate about cloud data engineering, automation, and building scalable solutions. They enjoy exploring new Snowflake capabilities, developing reusable metadata-driven frameworks, and applying modern engineering best practices to improve reliability, efficiency, and developer productivity. This individual takes ownership of complex initiatives, collaborates effectively across teams, and delivers trusted, high-quality data solutions that scale.

 

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance cloud-native data pipelines.
  • Develop and optimize enterprise data warehouse architectures, data models, and reusable data engineering frameworks.
  • Design and implement dimensional or normalized data models and certified datasets that provide trusted, governed data for analytics, reporting, AI, and operational workloads.
  • Build metadata-driven and configuration-driven ETL/ELT frameworks that improve development efficiency, consistency, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Implement and enhance Data Quality, Data Observability, monitoring, lineage, and automated alerting capabilities across data pipelines.
  • Optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Establish and follow CI/CD practices, including source control, automated testing, code reviews, and deployment automation.
  • Partner with Data Scientists, Analysts, Product Owners, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to improve platform reliability.
  • Evaluate and leverage emerging Snowflake capabilities such as Pipeline Builder, Openflow, Dynamic Tables, Snowpark, Cortex, and other platform innovations to continuously improve the data ecosystem.
  • Promote engineering best practices through documentation, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of junior engineers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and developing enterprise ETL/ELT solutions and cloud data warehouse platforms.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Snowflake.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Strong experience designing dimensional and normalized data models and building certified datasets for enterprise consumption.
  • Experience designing, developing, and optimizing large-scale, high-volume data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience implementing Data Quality frameworks, validation processes, reconciliation, and monitoring.
  • Experience with Data Observability concepts, including pipeline monitoring, alerting, lineage, and proactive issue detection.
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows, Git-based development, automated testing, and deployment processes.
  • Experience integrating RESTful APIs and processing semi-structured data formats such as JSON, XML, and Parquet.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as Cosmos DB or similar technologies.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-documented code.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and effectively within a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modern Snowflake capabilities including Snowpark, Dynamic Tables, Streams, Tasks, Openflow, Pipeline Builder, Cortex, Iceberg Tables, or similar technologies.
  • Experience building reusable metadata-driven and configuration-driven data engineering frameworks or accelerators.
  • Experience with enterprise Data Governance, Data Catalog, Data Lineage, or Master Data Management solutions.
  • Experience with Azure cloud services and cloud-native data architectures.
  • Experience in the mortgage or financial services industry.
  • Snowflake certifications preferred                                                     

 

Pay Transparency Disclosure

If based in New American Funding’s offices, this role has the annual base salary range stated above.  

Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. The listed range is a guideline, and the range for this role may be modified. For roles that are available to be filled remotely, the pay range is localized according to employee work location by a factor of between 80% and 100% of range.
