Responsibilities

  • Manage and adjust first-party property claims for various North American business units.

  • Provide data analysis on trends, reserves, and metrics to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with various departments such as Actuarial, Underwriting, and Finance for effective communication and support.

  • Support additional duties and travel requirements as necessary.

Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Sr. Claims Specialist in our North America First Party Property Claims team.

The successful candidate will be able to adjust commiserate level exposures providing insight and analysis on complex commercial property exposures.  The role includes Claim adjustment oversight of our First Party Property claim business, inclusive of Middle Market, Shared & Layered, Excess & Surplus Commercial based property line exposures.

Location: This position can be based out of our Boston, MA, Alpharetta, GA, Charlotte, NC, Dallas, TX, Purchase, NY, NYC, NY, Morristown, NJ or any of our other US based offices. What you’ll be doing:

  • Handle Commercial Property claim exposures for North American Property business units, including related systems and processes.

  • Evaluate exposures and make claim decisions on first-party property claims, while providing guidance on complex coverage, liability, and damages issues.

  • Manage loss adjustment expense and ensure efficient, timely, and accurate claim reporting, including narratives and financial calculations.

  • Report exposures, reserves, trends, and claim metrics to Underwriting, Senior Management, Reinsurers, and key internal stakeholders.

  • Partner with Actuary, Cede Re, Underwriting, Operations, Finance, and other functional groups to support reporting, communication, and business needs.

  • Maintain compliance with best practices and procedures, build strong relationships with brokers and agents, and support additional duties and travel as needed.

What you’ll bring:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant claims experience with a track record of increasing responsibility.

  • Direct experience handling Commercial Property and E&S Property claims, including quota-share, shared/layered, and excess claims.

  • Preference for candidates pursuing or holding an insurance designation such as CPCU.

  • Proven ability to manage high-volume workflows effectively, including during catastrophic events.

  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build close working relationships across departments, especially Underwriting and Actuarial.

  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, written, organizational, and computer skills; construction/property estimating and experience with Guidewire, Genius, or ImageRight are a plus.

Salary Range: $100,000 – $175,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
