Full Job Description
Overview:

The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Retail Finance team responsible for accounting, financial analysis, and reconciliations supporting the Retail Annuity business. The role will own assigned balance sheet and transaction-level reconciliations, including reconciliations performed through Oracle Account Reconciliation Cloud Service (ARCS), and will partner with Finance, Accounting Operations, Actuarial, Information Technology, and other stakeholders to research exceptions and support timely resolution. This position requires a strong accounting foundation, comfort working with large and complex data sets, and the ability to translate reconciliation results into clear conclusions, action items, and control evidence.

Responsibilities:
  • Own assigned Retail Finance reconciliations from preparation through completion, including account certification, supporting documentation, exception analysis, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Perform and support reconciliations in ARCS, including review of balances and transaction details, documentation of explanations, attachment of supporting evidence, and coordination of required approvals.
  • Reconcile Retail activity across source systems, the Data Lake, Oracle Financial Accounting Hub (FAH), subledgers, and the general ledger, as applicable to assigned processes.
  • Investigate data, mapping, timing, interface, and accounting differences; identify root causes; and coordinate follow-up with Finance, Accounting Operations, Actuarial, Operations, and Information Technology.
  • Support the U.S. GAAP and Statutory monthly, quarterly, and annual close for assigned Retail accounts and processes, including journal entries, account analysis, and financial reporting support.
  • Analyze Retail results and key financial variances, prepare clear explanations, and communicate significant items, risks, and open issues to management.
  • Maintain complete and audit-ready reconciliation support, including evidence of preparation, review, approvals, aging, and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Execute assigned internal controls and support the development and maintenance of control documentation, risk and control matrices, standard operating procedures, and process narratives.
  • Partner with project and systems teams to define Finance reconciliation requirements, validate source-to-ledger data flows, and participate in user acceptance testing for changes affecting Retail accounting and reconciliations.
  • Support the onboarding and stabilization of new Retail products, transactions, data feeds, and reconciliation processes, including validation of expected accounting outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize, automate, and improve reconciliation processes to enhance data quality and close efficiency while maintaining appropriate accounting judgment, data integrity, and control discipline.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reporting and contribute to cross-functional initiatives with limited direction.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced team members, share process knowledge, and perform preliminary review of work when requested.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting required; CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus.
  • Four or more years of accounting, finance, or audit experience, preferably within life insurance, annuities, reinsurance, or financial services.
  • Experience with account reconciliations, financial close, journal entries, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Strong U.S. GAAP accounting foundation; familiarity with Statutory accounting and insurance or reinsurance concepts is preferred.
  • Experience researching differences across source systems, subledgers, accounting hubs, and general ledger data.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle ARCS or another enterprise account reconciliation platform is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and demonstrated ability to work with, validate, and synthesize large data sets; experience with Power Query, Power BI, SQL, or similar data tools is a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle FAH, Oracle general ledger applications, PeopleSoft, Data Lake environments, or policy administration systems is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet close and project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain accounting or data issues to both Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
  • High level of initiative, accountability, and sound professional judgment, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
