Job Summary

The Role
The Psychiatric Social Worker plays a key role in a team that supports young people in the justice system. They provide mental health assessments and treatment services, including individual, group, and family counseling. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, the objective is to jointly enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus. This work is critical in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion by addressing the unique needs of each young person.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master's level in a similar subject may be considered.
    • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
    • NOTE: Successful MSW prepared candidates are required to seek and obtain clinical registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW), within 6 months of having completed the required 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given for:
  • Two (2) years or more relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
  • Recent experience working in a forensic setting or with a forensic population.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available. This position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
