Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for a 26-week contract assignment in Hilo, Hawaii.

This position is ideal for a clinician with strong adult rehabilitation experience who is comfortable evaluating and treating patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders.

A key requirement for this role is the ability to independently perform Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies. Candidates should also have at least 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation hospital, or similar post-acute setting.

Key Responsibilities
• Evaluate patients with speech, language, cognitive, communication, and swallowing disorders.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient goals.
• Provide speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing therapy.
• Independently perform Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies.
• Interpret MBS findings and develop appropriate recommendations for diet, swallowing strategies, and treatment.
• Complete bedside swallowing evaluations.
• Assess aspiration risk and swallowing safety.
• Recommend appropriate diet textures and liquid consistencies.
• Provide dysphagia treatment and patient education.
• Work with patients recovering from stroke, neurological conditions, surgery, trauma, or other medical conditions affecting communication and swallowing.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment plans and safety strategies.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in care planning, discharge planning, and rehabilitation conferences.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in Epic.
• Track patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
• Follow facility policies, infection-control standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:
• Active or eligible Hawaii licensure in Speech-Language Pathology
• Current BLS certification
• Minimum 2 years of Speech-Language Pathology experience
• Ability to independently complete Modified Barium Swallow studies
• Experience evaluating and treating dysphagia
• Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team

Preferred Experience

Strong candidates may also have:
• Skilled Nursing Facility experience
• Rehabilitation hospital experience
• Acute-care hospital experience
• Adult inpatient rehabilitation experience
• Neurological rehabilitation experience
• Stroke rehabilitation experience
• Experience treating medically complex patients
• Epic documentation experience
• Previous travel or contract therapy experience

5 days per week
• Flexible day schedule
• Approximately 36-40 hours per week
• Schedule will likely include one weekend day

Candidates should be comfortable with schedule flexibility throughout the assignment.
